MLT - Medical Lab Technician/Phlebotomist

This is a contract job opportunity with potential for perm. Position: MLT - Medical Lab Technician/Phlebotomist Location: Blacksburg, VA Schedule: 7:30am-4:30pm M-F Projected duration: 3-5 months + potential for perm Job code: CVDJP00035435 Benefits are available

Requirements:

  • Associate's in Medical Lab Technology

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
  • Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls.
  • Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care.
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment

In order for candidates to qualify they must meet the CLIA standards for testing personnel: [Candidates must possess at least 1 of the below]-Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science OR BS in Chemical, Physical, or Biological Science from an accredited college or university WITH at least 1 year of training or experience in specialty in which testing will be performed. Such training must be equivalent to that received in a school of Medical Technology. OR 90 Semester hours from an accredited institution that include the following: 16 semester hours of Biology courses, 16 Semester ours of chemistry [must include atleast 6 hours of inorganic Chemistry], and 3 Semester hours of Math- along with having completed an accredited Clinical Laboratory training program or 1 year of documented Clinical Laboratory Training, or experience in the specialty that testing is to be performed. OR -Associates Degree in Medical Technology.
