Job description

SUMMARY

Provide clinical support to providers for the health, wellness and disease management of patients to maintain quality patient care. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Maintain and record applicable client information in electronic medical records in an orderly fashion and according to guidelines.  Obtain client’s medical history and family history.

Help to facilitate the timely completion of insurance referrals and requests for disability benefits, durable medical equipment, medication prior authorizations and other forms requesting further patient/provider information.

Notifies patients of test results and provides instructions as indicated by provider.  Screens calls for providers.

Attend to patients, performing the following treatments and services (if trained):  administration of injections, nebulizer treatments, dry dressing changes, suture removal, electrocardiogram, ear lavage, tympanograms, audiograms and pulmonary function testing.

Take and record vital signs, weight, height, etc.

Obtain specimens and performs selected waived lab tests if trained (e.g. stool occult blood, rapid strep, urine HCG, blood glucose, etc.), capillary and venous blood collection.

Perform quality control testing as required for all lab waived tests.

Rotate office locations as assigned.

Actively participates in departmental staff meetings.

Maintains a safe environment and observes standard safety practices with particular attention to standard precautions.

Maintains work areas in a clean and orderly manner.

Conduct activities in a fiscally responsible manner with consideration for consumption of agency resources.

Maintain utmost confidentiality in all aspects of duties.

Work as an integral member of the health care team.

Organizes and completes work in a timely manner.

Keeps flow of clinic structured and as on schedule as much as possible.

Assist with scheduling of tests and referrals.

Counsel patients on anatomy and physiology, health maintenance and other health care issues.

Perform hearing and vision screening.

Assists medical provider with procedures and serves as a chaperone.

Maintain clinical tracking for client services:  follow-up, acute care, chronic disease, preventative, lab, x-ray, referral, etc. under the direction of the provider.

Replenishes supplies and orders medical supplies as needed.  Cleans and sterilizes instruments as needed.  Sets up exam rooms and keeps stocked with needed supplies.

Maintains a neat and professional appearance and demonstrates commitment and dependability.

Attends meetings, workshops and seminars and keeps current on primary care issues for all life cycles.

May assist in agency planning, projects and procedures.

Follows agency, State and Federal policies, procedures and guidelines, including (but not limited to) clinical, health and safety, pharmacy, laboratory and nursing guidelines. Work within the scope of practice of a CMA, as appropriate and within agency guidelines.

Perform other job-related tasks as assigned, as time allows.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Medical Assistant Certification required.  Must demonstrate the ability to relate well with people and maintain client confidentiality.  Must demonstrate the ability to express ideas clearly, both orally and in writing and be able to work independently.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and employees of organization.



MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
