Job Title: System Engineer III – Acoustic Signal Processing

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced engineer or related field to support the design, implementation and analysis of torpedo guidance and control algorithms. This role partners with Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, RI and requires working collaboratively inside a secure enclave with fellow MIKEL engineers as well as civilian government and Navy colleagues.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the design, implementation, testing, and validation of acoustic signal processing algorithms.
  • Analyze acoustic, navigational, and tactical data from simulated and in-water experiments.
  • Develop and maintain software tools to process, visualize, and interpret guidance and control algorithm performance.
  • Support integration and evaluation of new system enhancements.
  • Collaborate with Navy engineers, scientists, and operators to transition R&D efforts into operational solutions.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation for internal and customer review.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or related field.
  • Academic or internship experience in digital signal processing, acoustics, or a related technical area.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD secret level security clearance.

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of statistical detection/estimation.
  • Familiarity with sonar, underwater acoustics, or Navy systems.
  • Experience with systems engineering methods, software development, or test and evaluation.
