Job description


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist teachers with keeping American Indian students engaged and on-task during instruction and transition activities.
  • Assist teachers in reinforcing learning objectives with individual American Indian students or in small groups.
  • Support teachers with managing behavior and social-emotional needs of American Indian students.
  • Assist applicable American Indian students in meeting the goals of their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Assist American Indian students as they prepare to transition into the middle school setting.
  • Communicate with the Indian Education Director and home-school liaison to help meet the unique cultural, language and academic needs of American Indian students.
  • Assist with lunch and recess supervision of students.
  • Assisting with field trips as needed as approved by the Indian Education Director and elementary principal.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma (GED) and
  • Obtain an associate's (or higher) degree or
  • Complete at least two years of study at an institute of higher education or
  • Passing score on the ParaPro assessment.


Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and in small group situations to students, parents and/or staff.
Mathematical skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform basic arithmetical calculations. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but involved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Other skills and abilities: Ability to operate computers and photocopying machines. Ability to assume responsibility for supervising students, understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and board of education policies.
