Job description

Job Description SLD Algorithm Engineer - Tracking Location: Huntsville, AL Clearance: Active DoD Secret Experience: 7+ years Certification: No IAT certification required. Security+ is preferred. Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Algorithm Engineer to support the development of a complex defense command-and-control system.

This position will lead the design, development, analysis, and implementation of mathematical algorithms supporting real-time tracking and sensor discrimination. The engineer will develop algorithm prototypes in MATLAB and/or Python and help transition those algorithms into Java-based tactical software. Responsibilities Design and develop complex mathematical algorithms supporting tracking, data fusion, sensor discrimination, classification, signal processing, and related mission functions.

Develop algorithm concepts, prototypes, whitepapers, design documentation, and other technical artifacts. Implement or oversee the implementation of algorithms in Java-based, real-time tactical systems. Develop MATLAB and/or Python prototypes before transitioning algorithms into tactical Java software.

Participate in software design reviews, code reviews, integration, testing, and verification activities. Analyze algorithm and system performance, investigate unexpected behavior, identify root causes, and recommend solutions. Develop automated unit tests and verify software against established requirements.

Review systems engineering artifacts, including interface control documents, use cases, and sequence diagrams. Present algorithm designs, software approaches, and test results to internal and external stakeholders. Participate in Agile planning, work decomposition, sprint planning, and execution.

Collaborate with systems engineering, integration and test, deployment, and operational support teams. Required Qualifications Active DoD Secret clearance. At least 7 years of experience designing and developing complex mathematical algorithms.

Experience in one or more of the following areas: Data fusion Tracking and correlation Transferable belief models Signal or radar signal processing Sensor discrimination or classification Kalman filtering Experience developing algorithm prototypes and transitioning them into real-time software implementations. Experience implementing mathematical algorithms in Java or overseeing their implementation. Experience with MATLAB and/or Python.

Experience analyzing, testing, and verifying algorithm design and performance. Experience supporting the full software development lifecycle. Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to analyze system behavior, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions.

Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams in a dynamic environment. Preferred Qualifications Missile defense tracking or sensor discrimination experience.

Experience developing algorithms for data fusion, tracking, correlation, guidance, battle management, or radar management. Experience developing Java-based military or command-and-control applications. Experience working within the missile defense domain.

Experience with Agile software development, sprint planning, and technical leadership. Experience developing software within a DevSecOps environment. Experience developing Java applications on Unix or Linux platforms.

Experience with Git, GitLab, Eclipse, Maven, Gradle, SonarQube, or similar tools. Experience developing automated unit tests and verifying requirements. Experience with software integration and system-level testing.

Security+ certification.
