The primary purpose of this position is: to serve as a senior professional materials engineer with project management, execution, and operational responsibility. Considered the technical expert for the organization in materials engineering assignments concerning (insert functional area - i.e., Electro-optical Materials); employee provides technical leadership and management to ensure project/program success. Work may include assuring availability of materials with required properties and characteristics to satisfy agency requirements; identifying new uses for materials; promoting conservation through recycling or using "green material"; advising on the best materials for diverse and specific uses; or developing and applying the means of testing, evaluation, life prediction, and standardization of materials and properties for use in engineering, architecture, and scientific designs and projects.
Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship
- Obtain & maintain Security clearance
- An engineering degree at the bachelor's level from an institution with an ABET accredited program in Materials Engineering or a closely related field is highly desired.
- The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license may be required for the position.
- This may be a designated Drug Testing Position
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical (if applicable)
- The employee may be required to work extended or other than normal duty hours to include overtime, and/or days, swings, or owl shifts.
- The employee may be required to work during base exercises, contingencies or emergency situations.
- The employee may occasionally travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft IAW Joint Travel Regulations to other government installations, contractor facilities, or other commercial Locations for both training and mission accomplishment.
Recruitment Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of professional materials engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, and equipment to effectively apply advanced engineering theories, principles, and concepts to duties involved in the development, manufacture, and testing of materials.
2. Knowledge of development testing and evaluation sufficient to apply experimental theories and/or new applications to issues and provide technical advice and direction in support of weapon systems, subsystems, and/or support equipment.
3. Knowledge of the principles of planning and project management; standard acquisition regulations, practices, and procedures; and other engineering disciplines.
4. Ability to devise and evaluate criteria, parameters, characteristics, and interrelationships for design approaches and to assess the impact of new technology on current systems and processes.
5. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing, as well as work in a professional manner with peers, management, contractors, academia, and other agencies.
6. Ability to use computer applications in support of planning, designing, analysis, and reporting.
