The Opportunity

Do you enjoy solving technology problems, supporting people and delivering excellent service? Vermilion is seeking an IT Support Specialist to provide responsive front-line technical support from our Calgary head office, supporting corporate, field-site and executive users across Canada.

As a key member of the IT team, you will provide responsive in-person, deskside and remote support, troubleshoot a broad range of technology issues, and ensure incidents and service requests are resolved efficiently, professionally and with strong ownership. Working closely with Infrastructure, Cyber Security and global IT teams, you will help deliver a reliable, secure and positive technology experience for Vermilion employees.

What You Will Do

• Provide professional in-person, deskside and remote technical support to corporate, field-site and executive users, ensuring timely and appropriate support based on business priority.

• Receive, prioritize, troubleshoot and resolve incidents and service requests, ensuring clear communication and timely follow-up throughout the support process.

• Support hardware, software, Microsoft 365 applications, identity and access services, connectivity, mobile devices and end-user peripherals.

• Deploy, configure and maintain laptops, desktops and mobile devices, ensuring employees have reliable, business-ready equipment to support productivity and business continuity.

• Maintain meeting rooms and audiovisual equipment to ensure spaces are available, fully functional, secure, updated and ready for business use.

• Deliver a seamless onboarding experience by preparing equipment, coordinating technology access and helping new employees get up and running quickly.

• Provide technology support for town halls, meetings and business events, including setup, testing, troubleshooting and real-time support where required.

• Escalate issues appropriately to Infrastructure, Cyber Security, application teams or vendors, providing clear documentation and troubleshooting results.

• Maintain accurate asset, ticket, configuration and knowledge records and contribute to support documentation and training materials.

• Identify opportunities to automate repetitive manual tasks, including user onboarding/offboarding, access requests, device setup, asset updates, ticket routing and routine reporting, to improve consistency, efficiency and service reliability.

• Coordinate vendor support, repairs and warranty activities and follow issues through to resolution.

• Manage competing priorities while maintaining a high level of customer service, professionalism and follow-through.

What You Will Bring

• A diploma or degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience.

• 5+ years of progressive IT support experience in the energy sector, including experience supporting upstream, midstream, field-site or operational environments.

• Hands-on experience providing deskside and end-user technical support in a business environment, while collaborating with other IT teams to ensure issues and service requests are resolved completely and effectively.

• Strong ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced support environment.

• Asset management experience and strong organizational skills to ensure the right hardware is available, properly tracked and ready to support business needs.

• Excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills, with experience supporting executives and other high-priority users with professionalism, discretion and sound judgment.

• Experience using IT service management platforms to document, prioritize and resolve incidents and service requests; Freshservice experience is considered an asset.

• Strong troubleshooting skills across Windows devices, Microsoft 365, identity and access management, connectivity, mobile devices and common peripherals.

• Must demonstrate a strong ownership mindset, with the ability to manage incidents and service requests from intake through resolution while keeping users informed and ensuring timely, complete outcomes.

• A collaborative, proactive and service-oriented approach, with strong attention to detail and a commitment to continuous learning.

Additional experience considered an asset

Experience in one or more of the following areas is considered an asset:

• Experience with endpoint management, device deployment, endpoint security, remote support, asset management and monitoring tools such as Microsoft Intune, SCCM and TeamViewer.

• Experience supporting meeting-room technology, audiovisual equipment and live business events, including setup, troubleshooting and readiness checks.

• Microsoft certifications or hands-on experience with Microsoft technologies, including Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange Online or endpoint management.

• Experience training end users on Microsoft tools, including Microsoft Copilot, and helping employees adopt technology effectively.

• Knowledge of administrative tools for Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID, including PowerShell and Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC), to support end users effectively.

Other Key Details

• This is an office-based role requiring presence in Vermilion's Calgary office five days per week.

• Occasional flexibility outside regular business hours may be required to support Vermilion's global operations, including meetings or activities involving teams in other countries and time zones.

• Occasional international travel may be required. The successful candidate must be eligible to travel internationally for business purposes.
