Job description

Abuse Testing Technician

Redwood Materials is seeking an Abuse Test Technician to support high-voltage battery testing, teardown, and failure analysis. This role will focus on executing safety-critical test procedures, handling battery packs and modules, and assisting in research efforts to improve battery durability and sustainability.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Perform abuse tests on battery modules and packs, including thermal, electrical, and mechanical stress testing.
  • Disassemble and tear down battery packs to analyze internal components, failure modes, and degradation patterns.
  • Follow detailed test setup instructions to ensure accurate and repeatable testing.
  • Install sensors, instrumentation, and harnessing on battery packs and test fixtures.
  • Document test results with clear, detailed notes, photos, and reports.
  • Work closely with engineers and safety teams to execute testing protocols safely and effectively.
  • Maintain a clean and organized test lab, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored and maintained.
  • Assist in data collection and analysis to support battery performance and safety evaluations.
  • Follow strict high-voltage safety protocols to ensure personal and team safety during all test procedures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues and improve testing processes.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working with high-voltage systems, battery modules, or power electronics is highly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly, disassembly, and electrical harnessing.
  • Strong understanding of safety procedures and PPE requirements when working with hazardous materials and high-voltage environments.
  • Ability to read and follow technical drawings, schematics, and written test procedures.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills to accurately record test results.
  • Willingness to work in a lab/testing environment, with exposure to thermal and mechanical stress testing conditions.
  • Experience with multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other electrical testing equipment is a plus.
  • Prior experience in battery testing, automotive, aerospace, or energy storage industries is a plus

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to lift and work with hand tools for extended periods.

Working conditions:

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with shifting priorities.

The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
