Job Overview

Description: R&D in the field of electrochemistry, material science, aero/thermal engineering, or mechanical engineering. Location: Atlanta, GA (Midtown), position is in-person/onsite. US citizenship is required.

Binergy Scientific is a top innovator in the field of electrochemistry, energy storage, material science and sensors with primary focus on defense applications. We develop cutting-edge electrochemical power sources, thermal components, innovative materials, biosensors, and devices for emerging defense applications, munitions, hypersonic vehicles, and other systems. Our work focus ranges from development of initial concepts, laboratory demonstration, and fieldable prototypes covering TRL 1 to 7. We are also involved in prototype manufacturing.

We are seeking a highly-motivated individual with a strong background in electrochemistry, material science, aerospace, mechanical engineering or relevant disciplines to contribute to the development of energy storage materials, batteries, biosensors, and other emerging devices for US DoD applications.

Responsibilities
  • Electrochemical and other materials development, characterization, and testing
  • Development and testing of advanced energy storage systems/ electrochemical batteries
  • Mechanical design, characterization, and testing
  • Implementation of previously developed test methods and processes, investigation of improvements, optimization, experimental validation and documentation of new/refined design and performance
  • Generating innovative ideas and solutions, preparation of compelling grant proposals
  • Preparation of technical reports and presentations
  • Contribution to commercialization efforts
  • The position provides opportunities to grow and lead a dedicated R&D area
Required Skills/Experience
  • Master degree or PhD in material science, electrochemistry, chemistry, aerospace, mechanical engineering, or related engineering disciplines
  • Previous experience with battery or other energy storage R&D
  • Experience with mechanical design
  • Development of laboratory test assemblies and automation, experimental setups, data acquisition and data processing systems
  • Work experience at chemical or material science laboratory
  • Hands on experience with material testing and characterization including SEM, XRD, XPS, TGA, DSC, and other analytical methods
  • Knowledge of CAD drafting (SolidWorks)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment
  • Project management experience and skills
  • Training and managing of students and interns will be required, as well as managing laboratory technical personnel to follow the laboratory protocols including safety and waste management
  • Due to the project focus and funding from the Department of Defense, US citizenship is required
