Overview
The Senior Engineer will provide internal and external customer support, technical and operational support, process improvement, project management, validation of product and manufacturing equipment as required. Additional responsibilities may include mentoring and leading subset engineering and technical team. Extensive acquired knowledge of Fort Wayne Metals core processes and products. They must have the ability to conduct customer interaction and complex project management.
Education & Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Sciences or relevant field preferred.
  • 7 years-experience in an engineering field preferred.

Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the innovation and validation of new processes, the improvement of current processes, and the reduction of process variability and the performance management and the professional development of direct reports.
  • Research, acquire, evaluate, and validate fabricated or purchased equipment. Track validation data. Create comparison reports and perform statistical analysis of equipment functions and of material produced on such equipment, as necessary. Present results to applicable staff, as requested.
  • Identify the need for, create, and prioritize projects to transfer Engineering knowledge into conclusions, information, and structure. Design, drive, and execute project to completion.
  • Provide technical assistance to FWM customers and suppliers.
  • Engage with customers to determine the needs, specifications, development options and support sales in quotes during the development of new products.
  • Create work instructions and training scripts for new processes, materials, and equipment.
  • Conduct failure analysis of product returns for assigned departments. Determine root cause and find solutions in order to avoid reoccurrence. Test solutions and implement as determined through collaboration with Quality Team.
  • Assist in the creation of inspection protocol for manufacturing processes within the assigned area, including process verification, validation, Process Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (PFMEA) and other necessary documentation.
  • Mentor and train engineering and technical team members.
  • Remain current with a detailed understanding of agency and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.

  • Work hours consist of 45 hours per week; additional hours may be required.
  • Exposure to processing aids including oils, acids, and cleaning solutions
  • Must be able to travel between various facilities.
  • Must be able to access all areas of operation, including second floors.
  • Occasional lifting approximately 30 pounds.
  • Pulling, squatting, and standing for long periods of time.
