Job description

FLSA Status: Exempt

Sign-on Bonus $2,000.00

Summary

This position is responsible for supporting the definition of requirements for materials, parts, and processes used in the manufacture and design of Interior Products Business Class seats for commercial aircrafts through testing and research.

The Material and Process Engineer will support the development, design and qualification of engineering packages by creating and/or revising specifications and other documents used to manage the deployment of materials, parts and processes for those engineering packages.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following with other duties as assigned:

โ€ข Focal for introduction and development of new materials and manufacturing processes

โ€ข Draft test plans and perform tests to qualify new materials, parts, and processes to meet internal and regulatory requirements.

โ€ข Work closely with Stress and Fire Properties Engineers to ensure new materials are compliant to applicable stress and flammability requirements.

โ€ข Conduct basic root cause and corrective action analysis to determine cause of materials, part, or process failures and implement solutions.

โ€ข Use project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements. Incorporate environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas.

โ€ข Stay up-to-date on industry standards, government regulations and new development in the field of M&P. Actively participate in SAE Seating Committee meetings/telecons.

โ€ข Support Stress/Flammability, Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering team with any M&P related topics.

โ€ข Support Supply Chain and Design Optimization team in researching use of new materials for potential cost and process optimization.

โ€ข Coordinate with other departments as necessary.

โ€ข Responsible to maintain material & process database

Requirements

Education and/or Experience:

B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Material Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. Masters of Science degree is preferred.

Four to six years of experience in related field. Experience with Aerospace composite materials and manufacturing processes is required. Experience with developing repairs is preferred.

Knowledgeable with ASTM standards and Composite Material Handbook (CMH-17).

Knowledgeable with FAA regulations for materials, processes and allowables.

Language Skill

โ€ข Ability to read, analyze, and interpret aerospace material and manufacturing process specifications, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

โ€ข Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

โ€ข Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
