Job description

(WJE), where we are seeking a project-manager-level Structural Engineer (i.e., Senior Associate) to join our dynamic team of architects and engineers.

Responsibilities:
  • Technical project execution for the day-to-day success of multiple concurrent projects, including:
    • Acting as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and project teams
    • Leveraging a principles-first approach to develop practical solutions for challenging engineering problems in combination with a deep understanding of codes, standards, and historical industry practices
    • Self-performing and advising others in complex analysis, repair design, hands-on fieldwork, and preparation of technically excellent client deliverables (e.g., written reports, presentations, construction details, and specifications)
    • Providing high-quality technical reviews of work completed by others
    • Sealing project documents as the Engineer of Record, as appropriate
  • Project management, including client development, project initiation, scoping, and assembling appropriate project teams; and managing internal and external client expectations, deliverables, and financials
  • Mentorship, including exemplifying WJE's culture of shared destiny and knowledge sharing to better the team around you: locally and company-wide, formally and informally, on-and-off projects, for technical topics and overall career development
  • Contributions to local practice development and company-wide objectives, including proactively fostering new and existing client relationships in pursuit of project work you are excited about; developing local rapport with contractors, designers, building officials, and others in Hawaii's unique culture; participating in the attraction, development, and engagement of up-and-coming WJE professionals; collaborating with other WJE practice leaders for in-house knowledge-sharing and training initiatives; and engaging in meaningful involvement in industry-related professional organizations, conferences, and technical committee

Qualifications:
  • Licensed Structural Engineer (SE)
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in civil/structural engineering
  • Minimum eight years of relevant structural engineering industry experience (10+ yrs preferred), including technical execution and project management (e.g., failure/damage investigation; non-destructive evaluation and instrumentation; seismic/structural analysis and design for repair, retrofit, and rehabilitation of existing structures; evaluation of bridge structures; and/or specialty consulting of new systems and materials from design through construction)
  • Experience in the Hawaiian market preferred, including knowledge of how structural elements are affected by Hawaii's tropical environment and techniques to mitigate damage; and established rapport with local contractors, designers, building officials, and others in Hawaii's unique culture
  • Excellent technical, graphical, written, and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to safely work at heights, in confined spaces, and in a variety of occupationally hazardous locations, including outdoors with exposure to temperature extremes
  • Ability to safely use and/or operate ladders, scaffolds, lifts, and other access equipment
  • Ability to lift and carry materials, tools, and other heavy equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Medically fit to utilize respiratory protection devices and other forms of Personal Protective Equipment
  • Ability to drive and safely operate a motor vehicle

$101,550.00 - $169,250.00
