Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Senior Staff Data Architect/Data Scientist. This position will be located at Roy, UT and will support the Sentinel program.
What you'll get to do:
Creates data mining architectures/models/protocols, statistical reporting, and data analysis methodologies to identify trends in large data sets. Analysis may have many applications such as to address a business issue or provide a competitive advantage for the organization. Requires strong statistical and data visualization skills.

  • Technical authority: Define and enforce standards for model validation, reproducibility, observability, and continuous delivery of analytic products.
  • Team mentorship: Provide hands-on guidance and career development for data scientists, engineers, and analysts, fostering a culture of scientific rigor and innovation.
  • Change influence & liaison: Drive adoption of emerging data-technologies, promote data-centric decision-making

Basic Qualifications:
Typical Minimum Education or Experience
• T06: 14 Years with Bachelors in Science; 12 Years with Masters; 10 Years with PhD.
• Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a USG secret clearance and obtain a SAP (Special Access to Programs)
• Enterprise Scale Data Architectures and Platforms - Proven experience leading data integration across complex, heterogeneous systems to include low-code data fabric platforms (e.g. Palantir Foundry, Databricks Lakehouse, Microsoft Fabric, IBM Watsonx.data, Denodo, etc) for large-scale analytics.
• Data Modeling - Strong experience with data modeling and architecture patterns in cloud and hybrid cloud environments.
• Outcome Oriented - Ability to translate data architecture into measurable outcomes (e.g. cost, schedule, performance, decision velocity)
• Digital/Data Modernization - Experience linking data into Digital Threads, and supporting AI/ML data pipelines.
• Programming Proficiency - Strong command of Python, R, or Scala, and experience with big data platforms such as Databricks, Qlik, Cloudera, Hadoop, Spark, or Snowflake.

• Thought Leadership & Vision - Recognized as a subject matter expert who can synthesize multiple disciplines, anticipate future data analytics trends, and influence the organization's long term strategy.
• Problem Solving Innovation - Track record of developing novel analytical approaches or algorithms that have solved complex, high impact business problems.
• Technical Leadership - Experience providing direction, mentorship, and knowledge transfer to multidisciplinary teams; ability to lead technical discussions and guide junior staff toward best practices.
• Executive Communication - Comfortable presenting sophisticated analytical findings and strategic recommendations to senior leadership and external stakeholders, translating technical concepts into clear business value.
• Change Management Influence - History of acting as an influencer of change-driving adoption of new data architectures, standards, or analytical frameworks across the enterprise.
• Cross Functional Liaison - Ability to serve as a spokesperson on advanced projects, acting as an advisor to management, peers, and customers, and maintaining critical external contacts to capture emerging technical needs.
• Advanced Certifications (preferred) - Certifications such as AWS Certified Big Data - Specialty, Google Professional Data Engineer, or equivalent industry credentials.
• Domain Expertise - Experience within defense, aerospace, or related high security environments is highly desirable, particularly in handling classified or sensitive data assets.
Primary Level Salary Range: $183,200.00 - $274,800.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
