Position Description

Special educator teachers at MLKCSE lead the coordination of special education services in accordance with their students' IEPs. This includes delivering specialized instruction aligned to students' IEP goals. The special educator works closely with the classroom teacher to ensure accommodations and/or modifications are being implemented.

Responsibilities

  • Provide research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student's IEP, which includes implementation of a combination of pull out and inclusion model services depending on the services required by the student's IEP
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to assist with planning and implementation of classroom accommodations
  • Develop Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students to include: present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals
  • Plan and implement targeted lesson plans according to goals on the IEP.
  • Do baseline testing to determine educational needs and develop a strategic plan to address areas for support
  • Communicate with Special Education Director, Speech Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, Psychologist, General Education Teacher and other specialists about student progress
  • Promote and maintain parent/guardian's involvement through positive family engagement
  • Participate in assigned professional development
  • Participate in all required periodic after school events
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal or Special Education Directorย 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Valid MA teaching certification in Special Education/Moderate Disabiltiesย 
  • SEI or RETELL endorsement

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience preferred, particularly in an urban setting
  • Bilingual (Spanish) candidates encouraged to apply

Salary: $50k-$90k

Salary commensurate with education and experience.
