Position Overview:

The Senior Scientist/Environmental Department Manager at Kapur involves technical knowledge and report preparation, business development, client management, staff management and department administration. The best candidate will have excellent organizational and relationship skills, and the ability to manage client expectations while developing staff to achieve their full potential. The Senior Scientist position would transition to Department Manager at the appropriate time.

  • Report Preparation/Review
  • Technical Knowledge and Strategic Planning
  • Staffing Assignments
  • Conduct staff performance reviews and assist with career development
  • Mentor staff, provide training and opportunities for growth
  • Work with company management to establish department financial goals
  • Staff interviewing, hiring and onboarding
  • Business Development – expand our existing internal and external network to generate a business backlog

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, or a related field. A masters degree (M.S.) is preferred but not required. Registration as a professional geologist (P.G.) is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 12+ years of experience in environmental consulting and project management
  • At present, there is a small expectation for travel. We have several projects in Northern Illinois, some of which will require overnight stays for our staff. The Senior role will likely have minimal overnight travel.
  • Excellent command of Wisconsin environmental regulations and standards. Working knowledge of Illinois Regulations would be a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and lead a team.
