Job description

Join our Troy Hospital-based OB/GYN APP Team, working clinically in our OB Emergency Department. Our full-time 1.0 FTE position will be primarily 12 hour shifts, 3-4 shifts per week.

The Advanced Practice Nurse provides care to the patient which is delivered during the antepartum periods. High risk patients are cared for in consultation and collaboration with the medical team. The practice setting for the APP-II will be in the Family Birth Center Triage/OB Emergency Department with the focus on enhancement of clinical care, patient satisfaction, and safety.

Essential Functions

  • Clinical Practice: The CNM/NP provides clinical services and management of mothers and babies as defined in the standing orders, policies, procedures and protocols for the APP. Performs physical exams, collects and documents data, manages labor and spontaneous delivery, conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, and prescribes appropriate interventions and medications. Formulates and implements prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, newborn and inter-conceptional care as defined by midwifery scope of practice. Communication/Consultation: Role models advanced practice professional nursing through conduct, appearance, communication, mutual respect, leadership, ethical decision-making, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Communicates effectively with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators and others and promotes patient and family centered care. Provides continuity, compassionate, culturally sensitive care to patients, and models this for students and colleagues.

  • Limited obstetrical ultrasound to include: Completes fetal imaging testing as indicated and appropriate which may include 1. evaluation of fetal well-being: biophysical profile, assessment of amniotic fluid volume, 2. determination of placental location, 3. confirmation of cardiac activity, 4. determination of fetal lie or presentation, 5. estimation of fetal weight.

  • Leadership/Quality/Research: Serves on appropriate unit and hospital wide committees related to woman and infant services. Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision -making in all clinical practice. Incorporates clinical research findings in the development and implementation of standards of care. Supports HIC approved clinical research/trials.

  • Education/Professional development: Assess educational needs, plan, provide and evaluate educational programs for nursing staff, interdisciplinary healthcare team, and community. Precept APP students and provide education and support to Residents and Medical Students. Provide patient and family education related to prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum,newborn and interconceptional care. Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.   • Quality control testing

Qualifications

  • Required Master's Degree Nurse Midwifery Program, accredited by the American College of Nurse Midwives or College of Nurse Midwifery or Masters in Nursing with Nurse Practitioner certification or Masters in Physician Assistant studies.

  • 6 months of relevant experience Obstetric nursing experience is required.

  • 2 years of advanced practice provider in Obstetrics experience is preferred.

  • LIC-Registered Nurse (RN) or Physician Assistant license - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire is required

  • CRT-Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) - AMCB American Midwifery Certification Board or Nurse Practitioner is required

  • CRT-Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - AHA American Heart Association is required to obtain within 180 Days

  • CRT-Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification (C-EFM) - NCC National Certification Corporation is required to obtain within 180 Days

  • CRT-Ob/Gyn (OB) - ARDMS American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography is preferred

  • CRT-At least one Certification from preferred list below Upon Hire is required

  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association preferred Or

  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross preferred
