Job description

Job Title: Animal Care Technician
Location: Rockville, Maryland
Type: Contract
Pay Range: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
Schedule: Monday - Friday: 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Overview
Biopharmaceutical Company is seeking a Animal Care Technician in Rockville, MD! This role would be responsible for animal handling and husbandry, working in the Vivarium Lab to support the advancement of immunology therapies.
Responsibilities
  • Receive, examine, transfer, identify and properly house incoming animal shipments according to SOP's. Provide food, water and environmental enrichment to animals following SOP's or approved ASP's.
  • Perform daily animal health surveillance checks and report any abnormal conditions of either the animals or the animal room environment to supervisory staff. Perform routine animal husbandry. Perform prescribed treatments on animals as directed by the veterinarian. Maintain a daily animal census in assigned animal rooms.
  • Humanely sacrifice animals designated for euthanasia in accordance with the appropriate ASP's and facility SOP's. Understand and follow SOP's, safety procedures and quality assurance guidelines for animal care.
  • Prepare and submit records, charts, logs, cage cards and inventories as required by SOP's. Maintain clean and organized work and personal areas.
  • Sanitize and decontaminate all areas of the facility in accordance with cleaning schedules. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • HS Degree
  • 1+ years of experience working in a vivarium (ideally mice, but rats, non-human primates, dogs)
  • AALAS LAT certification preferred but not required if candidate holds an advanced degree in Animal Science or a related field
  • Previous experience wearing PPE in a BSL-2 environment
  • Physical requirements: Standing for at least 75% of an 8-hour shift and able to lift at least 50 lbs (typically bags of feed/bedding weighing 30 lbs)
  • Schedule comfort and ability to work in basement environments without windows
