Job description

Role Overview

The Maintenance Technician performs preventive maintenance and repairs on equipment and systems and evaluates and recommends equipment improvements to improve availability, capability and yield. This role performs equipment failure analyses, troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment problems, and prepares technical reports to document equipment modifications and equipment maintenance procedures.

You Will
  • Review production schedules by farm, systems in place, process and workflows, computer programs, and other information to understand activities that take place in farms and how they are performed by staff
  • Create and implement action plans to ensure the achievement of the maintenance department on a weekly, monthly and annual basis
  • Assist in the development of, as well as deliver, the agreed upon budget area of responsibility which includes: 
    • Ordering parts and supplies; 
    • Maintaining inventory levels of commonly used parts and supplies; and 
    • Assisting with CapEx projects
  • Maintain record keeping within all software platforms to ensure records are fully updated on a weekly basis
  • Provides technical maintenance support and guidance to employees and farm management, including but not limited to:
    • Assembly and installation of feeders
    • Assist with a complete demolition and renovation of required barns
    • Assist in the replacing full tin roofs on the barns
    • Participate in a full renovation of finisher penning, which will include removing existing penning and replacing with new
    • Replace current pvc feed line with stainless steel feed line
  • Responsible for seasonal rodent control through maintaining an established bait station protocol
  • Develop control systems to decrease resource waste due to systems malfunctions including feed and water
  • Accountable for weed management, including operating spraying tools and equipment to apply herbicide around complex
  • Responsible for snow removal with heavy machinery if inclement weather arises due to late springs or early winters
  • Safely and effectively operate small hand tools and hand power tools.
  • Safely and effectively operate farm machinery such as ATV's, Skid Steers, or Tractors with various attachments for but not limited to renovation projects, mowing, roof repairs, or general groundskeeping tasks. Candidate must also be able to help maintain equipment before, during, and after use
  • Uses judgment to identify and resolve day-to-day technical and operational problems
  • Implement emergency response programs to farm system malfunctions and train staff to identify emergencies and response appropriately
  • Effective communication with teammates and supervisors in order to effectively achieve goals
  • Ensure adherence to the Company's animal care policies and procedures including: providing a physical environment that meets the animal's needs, providing access to adequate water and high quality feed, providing humane treatment of the animals, providing identification and appropriate treatment of animals in need of health care and following the guidelines for euthanasia
  • Ensure area of responsibility is accomplishing the following: 
    • Adherence to the Company's Safety Program requirements and guidelines; 
    • Adhere to biosecurity protocols; 
    • Adherence to environmental laws and procedures; 
    • Compliance of all company policies, procedures and guidelines; 
    • Willingness to change plans as needed; 
    • Cleanliness and sanitation of the farm; and

Requirements
  • A university degree in a relevant maintenance discipline, including but not limited to Agro-Industrial Engineering, Agronomy Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Sustainable Development and Engineering Bachelor degrees under the Engineer and Agriculturist professions
  • A minimum of one year of maintenance experience working in an agriculture or manufacturing facility
  • Must shower in and out of the facility daily  
  • Must work outside of normal business hours, including weekend, evening, holidays and emergency situations as needed
