What is a master's in communication?

A Masters in Communication is a graduate-level degree focused on advanced concepts in communication, including media studies, organizational communication, public relations, and digital communication. This program equips students with the skills to analyze, interpret, and effectively convey information across various platforms and audiences. Graduates often pursue careers in public relations, corporate communications, marketing, media, and academia. The degree generally takes one to two years to complete and may offer specializations in areas such as digital media, health communication, or strategic communication.

What jobs can I get with a master's degree in communication?

A graduate student with a master’s degree in communication often works for an organization in a communications-related department, such as public relations, human resources, fundraising, or advertising and marketing. Your duties and responsibilities vary greatly depending on your exact position, but they usually require building a strong network of other professionals in your industry, communicating with other departments, and consulting your organization on communications-related tasks and processes. Communications majors are creative individuals with excellent verbal and written communications skills. Your qualifications can lead you to positions like a content writer, marketing manager or consultant, or public relations specialist.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a communications specialist with a master's degree?

To thrive as a Communications Specialist with a master's degree, you need advanced skills in written and verbal communication, media strategy, and public relations, typically supported by a master's in communications or a related field.
