Overview

FMI's Strategy Practice is seeking a high-energy, self-motivated Consultant to join its growing Building Products & Materials team. The team advises industry-leading and growth-oriented building products manufacturers, distributors, and private equity firms on enterprise-level growth and investment decisions across corporate and business unit strategy, portfolio and investment priorities, and market and channel positioning.


Our work includes long-term growth strategy development, product and business portfolio prioritization, acquisition target identification and due diligence, market entry analysis, customer segmentation and targeting, channel and distribution model design, and value proposition development within the AEC and industrial ecosystem. Consultants work directly with CEOs and executive leadership, business unit leaders, and product managers to translate market insights into clear, actionable recommendations.


The Building Products team collaborates across FMI's Strategy Practice, Private Equity Services, and Investment Bank, providing exposure to engagements across the full building products and construction value chain.


This is a full-time opportunity based out of our Raleigh, North Carolina, headquarters, with expected travel of approximately 10% - 25%.

Responsibilities

  • Structure complex, ambiguous business problems and design rigorous analytical frameworks to guide engagement execution.
  • Lead primary and secondary research efforts, including stakeholder interviews, surveys, and market data collection.
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data, integrating market, competitive, and stakeholder insights into clear, defensible strategic recommendations.
  • Prepare executive-ready presentations and present findings to executive leadership, business unit leaders, and product managers.
  • Lead workstreams independently and contribute across multiple engagements in fast-paced, client-facing environments.
  • Proactively identify key next steps, anticipate risks, and drive project execution forward.
  • Contribute to FMI's thought leadership through articles, research initiatives, and participation in industry publications and events.


Qualifications

  • MBA from a top-tier program preferred; candidates with 4 - 6 years of professional experience in consulting, corporate strategy, product management, or relevant industry roles (Architecture, Engineering, Construction) will also be considered.
  • Demonstrated record of high performance, intellectual curiosity, and taking ownership of complex problems to drive them to resolution.
  • Advanced proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI, Tableau), including work with large, complex datasets.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills, including experience engaging and influencing sophisticated, challenging audiences.
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to exercise sound independent judgment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, listening, analytical, problem solving, interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
