Mastercam Programming information

What are some common challenges Mastercam Programmers face when working with complex parts, and how can they address them?

Mastercam Programmers often encounter challenges when programming complex geometries, such as intricate contours or multi-axis toolpaths. These situations require careful planning to avoid collisions, ensure optimal surface finishes, and maintain efficient cycle times. Collaborating closely with machinists and engineers can help identify potential manufacturing issues early on. Additionally, regularly updating Mastercam skills and staying current with software updates can greatly improve problem-solving and productivity when handling difficult projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Mastercam Programmer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Mastercam Programmer, you need strong skills in CNC machining, CAD/CAM software proficiency, and a solid understanding of manufacturing processes, typically supported by technical training or certification in Mastercam. Familiarity with Mastercam software, G-code programming, and CNC machine operation is crucial for producing accurate toolpaths and efficient machining. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective communication with machinists and engineers are essential soft skills. These competencies ensure the creation of precise parts, minimize errors, and optimize production efficiency in a manufacturing environment.

What is Mastercam programming?

Mastercam programming refers to the process of using Mastercam software to create toolpaths and generate G-code for CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines. This software enables programmers to design parts, simulate machining operations, and optimize cutting processes for manufacturing. Mastercam programmers convert CAD models into instructions that CNC machines use to fabricate parts with precision and efficiency.

Job description

EPS Corporation is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Machinist with a minimum of 10 years' hands-on experience in machining and CNC programming. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and programming CNC and manual machining equipment to produce complex, high-tolerance parts in support of Department of Defense (DoD) and commercial fabrication projects. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to read and interpret technical drawings, develop efficient machining strategies, and ensure conformance to AS9100D and MIL-STD quality standards.

Key Responsibilities: Program, set up, and operate CNC mills and lathes (e.g., Haas, Mazak, Okuma, Fanuc-controlled machines). Translate engineering drawings, 3D models, and technical data into efficient machining processes. Create and optimize G-code and toolpaths using CAM software such as Mastercam, , or CAMworks (Solidworks CAM)

Perform quality inspections using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, CMM, etc.) to verify tolerances and specifications. Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, and speeds/feeds to improve throughput and part quality. Conduct first article inspections and support root cause analysis on non-conforming parts

Collaborate with engineers, quality inspectors, and other machinists to solve complex fabrication problems. Maintain accurate production documentation and machine maintenance logs. Adhere to and promote workplace safety standards and shop best practices.

Assist with quoting CNC machining jobs by accurately projecting production time, tooling usage, etc. Required Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required; trade school certification or associate degree in machining or manufacturing technology preferred. Minimum of 10 years of machining experience, including 5+ years of CNC machine programming.

Proficiency in interpreting GD&T, blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD models. Advanced understanding of machining materials, including aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, and polymers. Experience working in a DoD or AS9100D-compliant manufacturing environment.

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Qualifications: CAM certification (e.g., Mastercam, CAMworks (Solidworks CAM).) Experience with 5-axis machining Prior work supporting military systems or defense-related prototypes Familiarity with CMPro or other manufacturing data management systems IPC, AWS, or NADCAP exposure is a plus Work Conditions: Position may require standing for extended periods and lifting materials up to 50 lbs

Occasional overtime or weekend work based on production demands. EPS Corporation is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or protected veteran status.
