About Us

Join a talented team of engineering professionals at Vogt Power International Inc. Vogt is based in Louisville, KY and specializes in the design, manufacture and supply of equipment and solutions to the power generation industry. We are an industry leader in heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs) with both domestic and international customers. 

Position Summary

The Lead Project Designer reports to the Manager of Design and works closely with the Vogt Capital and Aftermarket Project Management and Leadership teams during the sales cycle and the construction process. The Lead Project Designers are responsible for being one of the lead resources focused on understanding project design needs, developing site and facility solutions, drafting options, scope definition, assisting third party-engineers with project planning and cost estimations, and presenting the options to the Project Management and Leadership teams.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Develop project control drawings (model) and data using data sheets from mechanical, thermal, & structural engineering.  
  • Review project P&IDs for adherence to contract and VPI standards.
  • Review customer specifications and other contractual documents to ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Develop and implement work assignments for CAD personnel to meet the project schedule and commitments.
  • Develop preliminary 3D model of HRSG and components.
  • Prepare 3D models and/or CAD drawings for major equipment.
  • Assist and instruct CAD designers in the development of project detailed drawings.
  • Prepare and issue MTO's or requisitions for free issued materials and hardware.  
  • Provide guidance in the preparation of and checking of project drawings.
  • Check project pressure part models & drawings.
  • Provide input to vendor RFI's, SDR's, and NCR's.
  • Review dimensional interfaces of queued vendor drawings and documents. 
  • Provide support to the Project Engineer and Product Engineer for shop and field issues.
  • Maintain communication with team personnel to assure the successful completion of the project.
  • Assist in updating engineering schedules, drawing lists, or other project documentation needed for successful completion of the project.   
  • Assist with the development of a master project BOM and/or ship list.  
  • Participate in inter-departmental and project team meetings.
  • Assist with checking assembly and detail drawings of project equipment.
  • Maintain knowledge of current designs, standards, and procedures.
  • Participate in and prepare materials for department meetings.
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of design standards.
  • Travel to jobsite(s) for short field assignments
  • Attend site meetings when needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma with engineering-related coursework or an Associate's Degree in Engineering Technology, Drafting, or a related field; Associate's Degree or higher preferred. Equivalent experience may be substituted.
  • Ten (10)+ years of CAD design experience in an industrial, power generation, boiler, pressure vessel, or similar engineering environment.
  • Advanced proficiency with Autodesk software including AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Navisworks, Revit, and Inventor.
  • Strong knowledge of 3D modeling, engineering drawings, P&IDs, BOMs, MTOs, specifications, and design standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead project design efforts, coordinate work assignments, review design deliverables, and mentor CAD personnel.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Engineering, Project Management, Manufacturing, Vendors, and Customers to support successful project execution.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, computer, and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of fabrication, construction, and field installation practices; knowledge of ASME codes and pressure-part design preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and meet project deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel periodically to customer sites, fabrication facilities, and project locations as required.
