Position Summary
TemporaryPart Time Instructor - Academic Communities & LAIS
UNM'sUniversity College anticipates hiring Temporary Part Time (TPT) faculty duringthe 2025-26 academic year to teach and/or develop curriculum in the AcademicCommunities (FYEX, UNIV) and Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts & IntegrativeStudies (LAIS) programs. FYEX and UNIV (lower division undergraduate) courses are 1-credit, 2-credit, and 3-credit classes focusing on core collegesuccess skills, often with a focus on mathematics (Foundational Math),reading (Critical Text Analysis), or other topics. LAIS (upperdivision undergraduate) courses are 3-credit career preparation classes thatprovide the foundation needed to select coursework relevant to their career goalsand develop professional skills including resume preparation, interviewing, andorganizational communication.
Instructorsare responsible for all aspects of any class they are teaching, including butnot limited to meeting with the class during assigned times, content delivery,assignment development, grading assignments, reporting of grades, andassessment of student learning as outlined by the department administration.Details of employment can be found online in the UNM Faculty Handbook.
Positionsare contingent upon need each semester as determined by student enrollmentlevels, current course offering matrix, and demand driven by graduationrequirements. Positions may be filled oreliminated each semester up to the deadline for students to drop or addcourses. Candidates who are selected forthese positions will report to the Director of Academic Communities or theDirector of Liberal Arts & Integrative Studies.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
FYEX/UNIV instructors
1. Bachelor's Degree in the disciplineor subfield for which you are applying AND at least 15 graduate credit hours.
OR
A master's degree or higher in a discipline other than that for which you areapplying, and successful completion of at least 18 graduate credit hours in an accreditedprogram in the discipline or subfield for which you are applying.
OR
Bachelor's degree in thediscipline or subfield for which you are applying AND experience directlyrelated to teaching FYEX or UNIV classes at UNM.
2. A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding ofthe rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of theuniversity's mission to serve local and global communities.
LAIS instructors
1. Master's Degree in the discipline or subfield for whichyou are applying
OR
A master's degree or higher in a disciplineother than that for which you are applying, and successful completion of atleast 18 graduate credit hours in an accredited program in the discipline orsubfield for which you are applying.
2. A demonstrated commitment tocultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and tothe success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. At least 2 years teaching experience.
2. Experience teaching college transition or LAIS classes
