POSITION SUMMARY
The Adjunct Faculty - Oral Communication Instructor teaches communication courses that support the general education and professional competency requirements of the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program. The instructor focuses on developing students' oral, interpersonal, and professional communication skills essential for safe and effective nursing practice. Instruction aligns with institutional policies, California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) standards, and accreditation requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Teach Oral Communication courses (e.g., interpersonal communication, public speaking, or professional communication) in accordance with approved curriculum and learning outcomes.
  • Deliver engaging, student-centered instruction through lectures, presentations, group discussions, and interactive activities.
  • Emphasize communication skills relevant to nursing practice, including:
    • Therapeutic communication
    • Patient and family education
    • Interdisciplinary team communication
    • Conflict resolution and cultural competence
  • Develop and maintain course syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, and evaluation tools in alignment with institutional guidelines.
  • Assess student performance fairly and consistently; provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress in compliance with college policies.
  • Utilize instructional technology and the learning management system (LMS) for course delivery and communication.
  • Foster an inclusive learning environment that supports diverse learners and promotes professionalism.

  • Participate in faculty meetings, curriculum development, and professional development activities as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in communication, Speech, Rhetoric, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution, OR
