What is the Opportunity?

Reporting to the Manager, Data Governance, the Data Steward will play a key role in advancing enterprise data governance practices by improving the quality, usability, classification, and discoverability of critical business data within assigned data domains or initiatives. This role will partner with business and Information Services stakeholders to maintain trusted data assets, support adoption of data cataloging and metadata practices, and help embed governance standards into day-to-day business processes.

What You'll Do Here: 

  • Maintain and continuously improve the Business Glossary, Data Dictionary, Metadata, and related data standards in partnership with Information Services and business stakeholders.
  • Support the definition and application of data governance policies, operating standards, business rules, and common data definitions across assigned data domains.
  • Collaborate with Data Owners, Information Security, Information Services, Data Analysts, and Data Engineers to classify data based on content, sensitivity, business value, and appropriate use.
  • Support the definition, monitoring, and communication of data quality rules, validation criteria, and compliance measures aligned to business, regulatory, and governance standards.
  • Use data cataloging tools and metadata repositories to document, organize, and make data assets easier for data consumers to find, understand, and trust.
  • Provide data profiling information, lineage context, and business definitions that help end users assess whether data is fit for their reporting, analytics, and decision-making needs.
  • Investigate and resolve issues raised by data users, Data Analysts, Data Engineers, or business stakeholders related to data definitions, quality, relevance, and discoverability.
  • Partner with subject matter experts to support data discovery, confirm source system meaning, and ensure the correct analytical data is made available to end users.
  • Support master data management activities by helping validate key master data attributes, document business rules, identify data quality issues, and coordinate with stakeholders to improve consistency across systems.
  • Contribute to the review and refinement of stewardship processes, catalog content, search criteria, and documentation practices to improve data usability and adoption across the organization.
  • Document and maintain reusable governance artifacts, including data quality rules, validation checklists, issue records, and stewardship procedures, to support consistent delivery and team continuity.

What You Bring to the Team: 

  • Undergraduate degree in Information Technology, Data Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in data management, data governance, data quality, business analysis, analytics, or a related data-focused role.
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles, data quality practices, metadata management, and business glossary or data dictionary concepts.
  • Ability to interpret, organize, and document complex information in a way that is clear, accurate, and useful for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify data issues, clarify root causes, and communicate practical resolution options.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional business, Information Services, security, and analytics teams.
  • Excellent documentation skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments with appropriate prioritization and minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow standard intake, prioritization, issue-management, and escalation processes in a project or governance delivery environment.
  • Experience with data cataloging tools, metadata repositories, reporting platforms, ERP systems, project controls systems, or construction-related data is considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting master data management activities, including master data standards, attribute validation, data quality checks, duplicate identification, hierarchy maintenance, or coordination with source system owners, is considered an asset.
  • CDMP, DCAM, or a related data governance or data management certification is considered an asset.

The expected salary range for this role is $65,000-$80,000 per year

Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may includecertifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
