Position Summary:

The Lead of Planning Master Data is responsible for designing, governing, auditing, and continuously improving the planning master data framework that drives demand planning, supply planning, procurement, manufacturing, and inventory performance. The role requires deep understanding of how part-level data (lead times, safety stock, lot sizing, BOM structures, sourcing rules, planning strategies, capacity parameters) translates directly into service levels, working capital, and margin performance. This role works with Planning, Procurement, Manufacturing, IT, Finance, and Quality to ensure system accuracy, scalability, and compliance within a regulated environment.

Essential Functions:

Global Planning Master Data Governance

  • Establish and enforce global governance standards for planning master data across all plants and regions.

  • Own configuration and validation of:

    • Lead times (procurement & manufacturing)

    • Safety stock methodologies

    • Lot sizing parameters

    • Reorder points and planning strategies

    • BOM integrity and revision controls

    • Sourcing rules and supply assignments

    • Capacity and work center parameters

  • Develop scalable frameworks to support new product introductions (NPI), acquisitions, and double-digit growth.

ERP/MRP System Integrity & Optimization

  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for MRP logic and system behavior.

  • Diagnose root causes of MRP output anomalies (excess, shortages, nervousness, reschedule messages).

  • Partner with IT and Planning to implement ERP enhancements, upgrades, and automation initiatives.

  • Lead master data cleansing, harmonization, and standardization initiatives across legacy and acquired systems.

  • Build automated audit controls and exception reporting to proactively identify system breakdowns.

Planning Performance Enablement

  • Translate business strategy into system parameter design that improves:

    • Forecast accuracy

    • Inventory turns

    • Service levels

    • Backorder reduction

  • Partner with Demand & Supply Planning teams to continuously refine safety stock and replenishment logic.

  • Support IBP by ensuring data inputs are structurally sound and financially aligned.

New Product Introduction & Lifecycle Management

  • Establish structured master data setup processes for NPI launches.

  • Ensure planning parameters are correctly configured prior to product release.

  • Manage phase-in/phase-out transitions with minimal supply disruption.

  • Partner with R&D and Operations to align system configuration with manufacturing capability.

Analytics & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop advanced analytics and Power BI dashboards to monitor:

    • Data accuracy

    • Parameter drift

    • Planning health metrics

    • Inventory risk indicators

    • Lead root-cause investigations of systemic planning performance issues.

    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that eliminate structural inefficiencies within ERP

Qualifications:

  • 8-12+ years of experience in supply chain planning, master data governance, or ERP/MRP systems within a regulated manufacturing environment (medical device strongly preferred)

  • Deep technical knowledge of:

    • MRP logic and system behavior

    • Planning parameter design

    • BOM structures and revision control

    • Capacity modeling

    • Inventory optimization methodologies

  • Hands-on ERP experience (SAP, Oracle, or equivalent) in a multi-site environment

  • Advanced Excel and data analytics skills; Power BI experience strongly preferred

  • Experience with database management, SQL, or data extraction tools preferred

  • Strong understanding of FDA/ISO-regulated environments and change control processes

  • APICS (CPIM/CSCP) certification strongly preferred

  • Lean/Six Sigma experience preferred

  • Systems thinker with exceptional analytical depth

  • Highly detail-oriented with strong process discipline

  • Comfortable challenging assumptions using data

  • Able to operate independently as a technical authority
