Master Control Room Operator (Group 9)

This position is based in Reuters' Washington DC MCR.

Reuters is seeking an experienced Master Control Room Operator for our growing TV Support & Operations team, based in Washington DC. In this multi-skilled operational role, you will work in our fast-paced, 24/7 DC Master Control Room (MCR) and collaborate with other MCR teams globally. Our MCRs are responsible for the technical assessment, co-ordination and supervision of incoming news feeds and transmission of news coverage to Reuters video products.

You'll also use your technical acumen to assist with other key areas such as technical planning, equipment testing, preparation and deployment, and direct operational support of news and video equipment.

About the Role

As Master Control Room Operator (Group 9) at Reuters, you will:

  • Be responsible for the technical supervision, configuration, routing and co-ordination of video/audio signals from linear and file-based sources, ensuring successful delivery of editorial content.

  • Use your understanding of modern IP transport protocols for video and relationship of these to cloud working.

  • Continually assess signal qualities, ensuring that all areas of the operation run to a high technical standard.

  • Perform proactive health checks to confirm functionality of key systems and first-level fault diagnosis.

  • Quickly identify service-affecting issues and effective liaison with support teams globally to ensure they are professionally addressed.

  • Continually review and optimize operational protocols to ensure they meet business needs.

  • Maximize service quality and efficiency for internal/external customers through appropriate forward planning and the effective management of multiple tasks.

  • Work closely with senior staff and support teams to ensure the prompt and efficient flow of appropriately detailed information to all stakeholders.

About You

You're a fit for the role of Master Control Room Operator (Group 9) if you have:

  • Previous experience of working in Broadcast TV Operations.

  • Good knowledge of Video and associated signal formats, practical IT infrastructure and connectivity, linear video and file transmission methods, and video conversion techniques.

  • Quality assessment skills required to supervise TV operations to a high technical standard.

  • Good levels of situational awareness and the ability to work efficiently under pressure.

  • Good written/verbal communication skills for the clear flow of detailed information.

  • Willingness and pro-activity to assist in all areas of the operation plus an ability to work either independently or as part of a team.

  • Excellent understanding of customer requirements and an ability to adopt the most appropriate approach to meet their needs.
