Position Overview:
The Department of Business seeks a motivated, organized, and detail-oriented graduate student to serve as a Teaching Assistant (TA) supporting the existing BSBA, MBA, MSBAN, and new MBA Pro+ program, the development of the Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBAN) curriculum, and accreditation-related initiatives. Reporting to and working closely with faculty, the Teaching Assistant will provide instructional, administrative, and project support that enhances the student learning experience, contributes to the successful development of new academic programs, and supports the University's continuous improvement and accreditation efforts. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in higher education, curriculum development, and academic operations while making a meaningful contribution to SFBU's mission. This is a part-time, non-exempt position based in Fremont, CA, with eligibility for a hybrid work schedule.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching & Student Support
  • Attend all assigned MBA Pro+ class sessions.
  • Schedule and hold regular Teaching Assistant office hours to provide academic support to students:
    • One TA assigned to a course: Two (2) office hours per week.
  • Provide in-class instructional and administrative support as directed by the faculty member.
  • Assist faculty with the creation and assessment of assignments and quizzes, excluding midterm and final examinations.
  • Support one or more MBA Pro+ courses, as assigned, and as needed.
  • Conduct research related to course content, instructional materials, and student learning.
  • Perform other teaching-related duties as assigned by the supervising faculty member.
Course Development & Accreditation Support
  • Support curriculum planning, instructional design, and preparation of course content within the University's learning management system.
  • Assist with gathering, organizing, and maintaining documentation required for accreditation reviews and academic assessment.
  • Support faculty in preparing reports, course materials, learning outcomes, and other documentation related to program quality and continuous improvement.
Exam Proctoring
  • Proctor examinations in accordance with university and instructor guidelines.
  • Observe classroom activities and maintain academic integrity by:
    • Monitoring for inappropriate testing behaviors.
    • Immediately reporting suspected incidents of academic dishonesty to the instructor.
    • Implementing preventative measures to discourage inappropriate behaviors.
    • Note: Proctors are not permitted to confront students during examinations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business or a closely related field.
  • Current enrollment in a master's degree program at San Francisco Bay University.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of business concepts through relevant undergraduate or graduate coursework.
  • Strong written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate documentation.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling academic and institutional information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other educational technologies is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience serving as a Teaching Assistant, tutor, peer mentor, or student leader.
  • Familiarity with online learning platforms and instructional technologies.
  • Interest or experience in curriculum development, accreditation processes, or academic assessment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines in a collaborative academic environment.
Work Schedule
Teaching Assistants are scheduled based on course assignments and departmental needs. Office hours and work schedules will be coordinated with the supervising faculty member.
Student Employment Requirements
Student employees must comply with all university student employment policies, including:
  • Maximum of 20 hours per week while classes are in session.
  • Maximum of 8 hours in one workday.
  • May not work seven (7) consecutive days within a workweek.
  • Violation of these policies may result in termination of student employment.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to remain seated or standing for extended periods during class sessions and examinations.
  • Ability to use a computer and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students.

Compensation:
Student Employees are paid on an hourly basis. Compensation for this position is $18- $22/hour. This position is not eligible for benefits.
