Job description

Multnomah Athletic Club is more than Portland's most legendary hub of sports and socializing. It's like a small city unto itself. Where else can you find four restaurants, three pools, a climbing gym, state-of-the-art studios and fitness suite, a complex of racquet sport courts, massage offerings, a boutique, plus a grand ballroom and variety of events spaces all in one place? To say that every employee of MAC has room to move is an understatement almost as big as MAC's 600,000 square feet of recreational possibilities.
Want a career with a future? A campus worth exploring? A one-of-a-kind community on which you can have a direct impact? MAC is all of those things and more.
The Role
At the Multnomah Athletic Club (MAC), our mission is to provide fun, safe, and enriching experiences for families and children through engaging and active programming. We are seeking a caring, energetic, and dependable Playschool Assistant Teacher to support our Playschool program for children age 3.
This position works closely with the Lead Teacher to create a nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment where children can learn, explore, and thrive. This is primarily a part-time position with opportunities for additional hours based on availability and program needs.
Schedule Requirements:
  • Must be available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Year-round position with a school-year commitment from September through June
  • Classroom size of up to 20 children ages 3 years old

Many of our Assistant Teachers have grown into Lead Teacher positions, making this an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in building a career in early childhood education.
What You'll Do
  • Assist the Lead Teacher in providing a safe, fun, and enriching classroom experience for children ages 3 years old.
  • Help prepare learning activities that support children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
  • Foster a positive learning environment where each child feels valued, respected, and supported.
  • Provide active supervision and ensure the safety and well-being of all children.
  • Maintain a classroom environment that is clean, organized, welcoming, and engaging.
  • Track attendance and maintain accurate classroom records.
  • Communicate observations regarding children's development, progress, and behavioral needs with the Lead Teacher.
  • Model positive behavior and utilize appropriate behavior management techniques.
  • Build positive relationships with children, families, coworkers, and MAC members.
  • Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and continuing education opportunities.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Follow all MAC policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Lift and carry children weighing up to 50 pounds as needed.

What You'll Bring
  • Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or at least one year of classroom experience as an assistant teacher in a preschool setting preferred.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect certifications, or the ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Strong judgment, patience, and professionalism when working with children and families.
  • Passion for early childhood education and supporting children's growth and development.
  • Ability to create positive relationships and collaborate effectively with coworkers, families, and members.
  • Dependability, strong communication skills, and regular attendance.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

What You'll Gain
At Multnomah Athletic Club, we believe in taking care of our team members. We offer a wide range of benefits to ensure your well-being, both inside and outside the club. Here's what's in it for you:
  • Full-time employees: Enjoy medical, dental, and vision insurance.
