Looking for More Than Just Another Manufacturing Job?

Do you enjoy detailed, hands-on work where quality matters?

Are you the type of person who notices imperfections that others miss?

Would you rather build a long-term career than simply find your next job?

If so, we'd like to meet you.

At Avtec Finishing, we specialize in precision metal finishing for customers in the medical, aerospace, defense, and industrial manufacturing industries. The work we perform helps produce components used in products people rely on every day-from life-saving medical equipment to aircraft and defense systems.

Most people have never heard of the metal finishing industry before joining us-and that's okay. We'll teach you our trade.

What we can't teach is reliability, attention to detail, personal accountability, and the desire to produce quality work every day.

Position Summary

As a Masking Technician, you'll prepare customer parts for the metal finishing process by applying and removing specialized masking materials that protect designated surfaces during processing.

This position requires patience, precision, steady hands, and exceptional attention to detail. The quality of your work directly impacts the quality of the finished product.

You'll also assist with racking, unracking, packing, and other production activities as business needs require.

What the Job Looks Like

Some days you'll be working with parts smaller than a penny, carefully inserting tiny silicone plugs into holes no larger than the tip of a pencil. Other days you'll work with much larger components requiring different masking techniques.

Success in this role comes from maintaining focus, accuracy, and consistency throughout the day while performing repetitive, detail-oriented work.

What You'll Do
  • Prepare customer parts for masking.
  • Apply and remove silicone plugs, rubber plugs, tape, and liquid maskants according to customer specifications.
  • Read work orders, blueprints, and written instructions.
  • Count parts to verify production quantities.
  • Inspect completed work for quality and accuracy.
  • Record production information on work orders.
  • Package completed work for movement to the next operation.
  • Perform touch-up, rework, and preparation activities as needed.
  • Maintain accurate paperwork and production records.
  • Work safely with approved chemicals and masking materials.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Meet established quality and production expectations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What Makes Someone Successful Here

You'll likely enjoy this position if you:

  • Take pride in producing accurate work.
  • Enjoy detailed, repetitive work that requires patience and concentration.
  • Have excellent hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.
  • Notice small imperfections others often overlook.
  • Follow written instructions carefully.
  • Learn new processes quickly.
  • Balance quality with productivity.
  • Work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Show up every day, on time, ready to contribute.
QualificationsRequired
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Dependable attendance and strong work ethic.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Ability to read an analog clock and tape measure.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.
  • Ability to work with very small parts while maintaining accuracy.
  • Ability to follow detailed written instructions.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to safely work with approved chemicals and solvents.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or otherwise authorized to work in the United States, as required for certain customer and government-related work.
Preferred
  • Previous manufacturing, assembly, production, inspection, or masking experience.
  • Blueprint reading experience.
  • Experience working with precision components.

Don't meet every preferred qualification?

We're willing to train individuals who demonstrate excellent attendance, attention to detail, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn.

Before You Apply

Please apply if you are comfortable with the following:

  • Working in a manufacturing environment that includes heat, humidity, noise, dust, and chemicals.
  • Performing repetitive, detail-oriented work throughout the day.
  • Working with both very small and larger customer parts.
  • Following detailed written instructions and customer specifications.
  • Participating in an in-person interview in Minnesota. (We do not conduct virtual interviews.)
  • Personal mobile devices being secured during working hours and accessed only during authorized breaks in designated areas due to customer security requirements.

Step 1: Submit your resume and complete the application questions. Your responses help us better understand your communication skills, attention to detail, and overall fit for the position.

Step 2: Selected applicants will be contacted by text message and/or email to schedule interviews. Text messaging is our preferred method because it allows us to communicate quickly throughout the hiring process. Applicants may opt out of text messaging at any time.

Step 3: Before the interview, applicants must successfully complete a basic math assessment with a 10-minute time limit.

Please allow up to 14 days for our hiring team to review applications.

To ensure we can review every application as efficiently as possible, please do not call or email requesting application status updates. Doing so does not speed up the hiring process and reduces the time our HR team can dedicate to reviewing applications and scheduling interviews.

If you're dependable, detail-oriented, and interested in building a long-term career where precision matters, we'd encourage you to apply today.
