Job description

Artsefact LLC | Remote | Unpaid Educational Internship

Minimum commitment: 4 months | Up to 20 hours/week

Artsefact is a wildlife art and conservation-focused small business using art, education, and storytelling to raise awareness for wildlife, particularly endangered and lesser-known species.

We're looking for a creative, curious Marketing & Conservation Communications Intern who wants hands-on learning experience across digital marketing, content creation, conservation communications, and creative entrepreneurship.

This is a learning-focused internship designed to provide mentoring, practical experience, feedback, and opportunities to develop work you can use to strengthen your rรฉsumรฉ and portfolio.

You don't need to already know everything we'll cover.

That's the point of an internship.

Meetings are done via Google Meet and require a camera and microphone

Stable internet connection is required

What You'll Learn & Work On

Our interns don't just learn how to create a social media post. We explore how individual pieces of content fit into a larger marketing and communications strategy.

You'll learn how one wildlife topic can develop into an interconnected campaign:

Research โ†’ Blog โ†’ Newsletter โ†’ Social Media โ†’ Video โ†’ Website โ†’ Audience Engagement โ†’ Measurement

Depending on current projects, training may include:

  • Researching endangered and threatened wildlife using credible sources
  • Conservation communications and responsible wildlife storytelling
  • Blog writing and long-form content development
  • Email newsletter strategy and writing
  • WordPress publishing
  • SEO fundamentals
  • Search intent, audience-question research, and hook development
  • Tools such as Google Trends, Google Autocomplete, AnswerThePublic, and similar research platforms
  • Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, YouTube, and other platform strategies
  • Reels, Shorts, time lapses, carousels, graphics, and other digital content
  • Short- and long-form video strategy
  • Content repurposing
  • Audience personas and customer journeys
  • Educational versus promotional messaging and calls to action
  • A/B testing and marketing experimentation
  • Social media and content analytics
  • Competitor and industry analysis
  • Campaign planning
  • E-commerce and digital merchandising concepts
  • Ethical and responsible use of AI in marketing and research

You'll apply these concepts through guided, real-world Artsefact projects while receiving feedback and mentoring throughout the internship.

Develop Your Own Specialization

Not every intern has the same strengths or career goals.

As the internship progresses, we'll identify an area that matches your interests and give you opportunities to explore it more deeply.

Potential specialization areas include:

Video & YouTube Strategy

Explore short- and long-form video, hooks, titles and thumbnails, audience retention, YouTube analytics, content repurposing, and efficient video workflows.

Content Marketing & SEO

Explore blogging, newsletters, audience and keyword research, WordPress, search optimization, and multi-channel campaign development.

E-Commerce & Digital Marketing

Explore online-store management, product listings, product SEO, merchandising, marketplace strategy, and the online customer journey.

Social Media Strategy & Analytics

Explore platform-specific strategy, audience behavior, campaign development, content testing, analytics, and performance recommendations.

If you already have a developing strength, whether that's video editing, writing, graphic design, photography, Etsy/e-commerce, analytics, or something else relevant, tell us. We'd like to know what you bring to the internship as well as what you'd like to learn.

Professional Development

We want the experience to benefit your career, not just Artsefact.

Toward the end of the internship, we'll also work on skills that help you turn your experience into something useful for your next opportunity, including:

  • Developing and practicing your professional elevator pitch
  • Turning internship experience into stronger rรฉsumรฉ bullet points
  • Identifying portfolio-worthy work
  • Developing a professional marketing or communications case study
  • Presenting your work and explaining the strategy behind it
  • Documenting projects and creating professional handoffs
  • Receiving individualized feedback on your strengths and areas for continued development

Our goal is for you to leave able to explain not only what you did, but what you learned, why you made particular decisions, and how you can apply those skills elsewhere.

Who This Internship Is For

This internship is intended for people who are still developing professional experience in marketing, communications, digital media, e-commerce, conservation communications, or related fields.

That might include:

  • College or university students seeking practical experience
  • Recent graduates building their rรฉsumรฉ and portfolio
  • Career changers looking for hands-on experience in a new field
  • People returning to the workforce who want to refresh or expand their skills
  • Emerging professionals preparing for their next career opportunity

We are not looking for established career professionals or experienced consultants. This is a learning-focused internship intended for applicants who will genuinely benefit from training, mentoring, guided practice, and professional development.

You may be a good fit if you are:

  • Interested in marketing, communications, wildlife, conservation, art, creative business, or related fields
  • Curious and willing to research unfamiliar subjects
  • Comfortable communicating and writing in English
  • Creative while able to work within an established brand
  • Reliable with communication and deadlines
  • Comfortable asking questions and receiving constructive feedback
  • Able to work independently after receiving direction
  • Interested in understanding the why behind marketing rather than simply completing tasks
  • Careful about accuracy, particularly when communicating wildlife and conservation information

Previous experience with Canva, WordPress, video editing, SEO, social media, email marketing, photography, e-commerce, analytics, or similar tools is helpful, but not required.

Internship Structure

Location: Remote

Compensation: This is an unpaid educational internship. There is no expectation of wages or other compensation, and participation does not guarantee or create an entitlement to future employment with Artsefact.

Academic credit: If you're currently enrolled in college or university, Artsefact is happy to work with your school so you can pursue academic credit where your program allows it. We can coordinate with your internship coordinator, faculty member, or career-services department and provide reasonable documentation regarding the internship and its learning objectives.

Duration: A minimum commitment of four months is required. We cover a wide range of topics, and shorter internships do not provide enough time to progress through the program and receive the full educational benefit.

Weekly commitment: Your weekly time commitment will vary depending on current projects, learning activities, and your own time-management and working style. Internship activities should not exceed 20 hours per week.

Team meetings: Current virtual team meetings are held on Mondays at 10:30 PM Central Time.

We may be able to adjust the exact meeting time for a future intern group if necessary; however, late-evening availability is required due to scheduling constraints.

We understand that students have classes, exams, major projects, and school breaks. Communicate with us when academic obligations arise so that internship activities can be adjusted when reasonably possible.

How the Internship Works

The internship follows a general progression:

Learn โ†’ Practice โ†’ Contribute โ†’ Take Ownership โ†’ Reflect

You'll begin by learning about Artsefact's mission, brand, audiences, conservation communication standards, and workflows.

Early assignments include more guidance and review. As your skills develop, you'll have opportunities to make recommendations, develop strategies, and take greater ownership of individual projects.

Regular virtual meetings combine training, mentoring, project reviews, demonstrations, strategy discussions, feedback, and planning.

Because interns have different backgrounds and interests, individual projects and specialization areas may vary.

About Artsefact

Artsefact LLC is the wildlife art and conservation project of Texas-based artist Nina Garza.

Through original wildlife art, educational content, products, events, and conservation partnerships, Artsefact seeks to make people curious about wildlife, particularly endangered and lesser-known species, and turn that curiosity into greater awareness and support for conservation.

It's Arts. It's Facts. It's Artsefact.

Let's make extinction untrendy.

How to Apply

Please submit your rรฉsumรฉ and a short introduction telling us:

  • Why this internship interests you
  • What you hope to learn
  • Where you currently are in your professional journey, for example, college, recent graduation, a career change, returning to the workforce, or another reason you're seeking practical experience
  • Any relevant coursework, projects, experience, or developing skills
  • Which area interests you most: content/writing, social media, video, e-commerce, analytics/strategy, or something else
  • Whether you're interested in pursuing academic credit, if applicable
  • Whether you can commit to at least four months
  • Whether late-evening virtual meetings generally work with your schedule

Portfolio or work samples are welcome if you have them, but they're not required.

Most importantly, tell us what you're interested in learning.

We're looking for someone who is curious, dependable, willing to learn, and excited to apply those lessons to real-world conservation communications.
