Electric Power Engineers, Inc. (EPE) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Manager to lead our Energy Market Analysis - ERCOT team. This pivotal role involves working closely with senior leadership to drive our growth strategy and provide expert guidance in our service offerings. Responsibilities
How you can make an impact:
  • Conduct in-depth analyses of congestion and basis risks for potential and existing projects, focusing on long-term regional transmission planning and development in ERCOT.
  • Perform financial, commercial, and engineering due diligence, including assessments of project operations, grid connection, market revenues, and contract provisions.
  • Lead and conduct transmission load flow and SCED Location Marginal Price (LMP) analyses.
  • Strategize on new project site selection and evaluate transmission-related opportunities to ensure competitive transmission availability for each project.
  • Offer expertise on transmission and interconnection issues during all project phases.
  • Analyze grid interconnection for due diligence activities, including LMP, congestion risk, and curtailment risks.
  • Forecast and advise on Financial Transmission Rights (FTRs), forward prices, transmission congestion, curtailments, and LMP basis price spread.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on transmission and market design, tracking policy changes and performing research on interconnection and transmission policies with a specific focus on ERCOT.
  • Serve as a transmission and market design expert by tracking changes, performing research regarding interconnection and transmission policies (including FERC record searches), and reviewing key topics and research and review of market rules or processes.
  • Collaborate across EPE teams to strategize on market trends, regulatory changes, and investment opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain key stakeholder relationships, including clients, industry organizations, and regulatory bodies.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and market innovations in the energy sector.
  • Advise on technical software strategy and IP development.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Leadership Duties
  • Lead the Energy Market Analysis ERCOT team, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
  • Drive EPE's market capability and expansion strategy for Power Markets Services.
  • Build strong relationships with senior client management and contribute to sales and business development activities.
  • Manage project staffing, resource utilization, and staff development and training.
  • Ensure impeccable quality and accuracy in all deliverables produced by the team.
  • Oversee project timelines, ensuring all projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to client satisfaction.
  • Engage with clients to understand and address their project needs and concerns.
  • Prepare and oversee responses to RFPs, defining project scope and time estimates.
  • Mentor junior ERCOT team members, enhancing team knowledge and capabilities.
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies for EPE's ERCOT energy market analysis services.
  • Represent EPE at industry events, staying informed of market developments and networking with industry peers.
  • Ensure effective project staffing, resource utilization, and staff training/development.
  • Ensure that every document generated by the Power Systems Engineer(s) assigned to a project is prepared, checked, and approved in accordance with EPE's quality management standards and without errors.
  • Take responsibility for the timely completion of assigned projects while meeting all project quality and budget objectives.
  • Interact with clients to seek input and address their needs and concerns regarding the project(s) under study.

Qualifications
Bring your passion, here's what's needed:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Economics, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • 10-15 years of experience in the electric energy industry, with expertise in power flow modeling, transmission planning, and market analysis.
  • 10-15 years of experience in the electric energy industry, power flow (PSSE/MUST) modeling, transmission planning, interconnection studies, and SCED analysis (PROMOD, UPLAN, PLEXOS, Grid View, etc.).
  • Strong background in power system optimization and knowledge of various market structures (PJM, SPP, MISO, NYISO, ISO-NE, CAISO).
  • Experience in resource planning, market design, renewable energy finance, and contract negotiation.
  • Prior experience supporting IRPs, resource adequacy, market design and rule development, RECs, ITC and PTC, PPA negotiation, and financial modeling of renewable energy assets will be looked upon favorably.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and technological aptitude.
  • Experience leveraging AI and automation tools responsibly to improve quality, productivity and innovation
  • Significant knowledge of and/or experience with the ERCOT market is a benefit.
