Job description

Reports to: Service Advisor

The Mechanic/Marine Technicians responsibility is to perform mechanical maintenance and repairs on our customers marine craft. They must meet customer satisfaction standards as well as company sales and safety requirements.

This position requires the team member to work 5 days per week and 8 hours per day during the busy season. This schedule may be altered to a 4-day workweek and 10 hours per day in the off season, with management approval. Marina operating hours range from 5:30 a.m. 8:00 p.m., and seasonal schedule changes may take place at management discretion.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Troubleshoot and repair marinized engines
  2. Repair propulsion components such as gear cases, stern drives, etc.
  3. Diagnose and repair carbureted and fuel injected intake systems
  4. Perform winterization and summarization of engines and boat systems
  5. Solid understanding of 12V and battery bank systems
  6. Operate diagnostic software
  7. Installations such as new engines, pumps and others as assigned
  8. Perform mechanical repairs on boat equipment including water systems, waste systems, steering systems, engine controls, etc.
  9. Demonstrate good judgment and problem-solving skills and abilities
  10. Perform other duties as assigned or apparent

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Act with the highest level of integrity and maintain a positive attitude
  • High school diploma required
  • 3-6 years of experience in the performance of mechanical repair and installation
    • OEM certifications preferred, but not required
  • Ability to speak and read English and understand electrical wiring diagrams
  • Ability to use test instruments
  • Ability to use specialty tools as designated by OEMs
  • Must provide tools and test equipment
    • Specialty tools and diagnostics provided
  • Electrical troubleshooting experience
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job
  • Strong work ethic and personal commitment
  • Ability to work in a team environment to achieve team, department, and company goals
  • Ability to be a self-starter and work independently
  • Willingness to work on a variety of internal combustion engines (diesel, inboard, outboard, etc.)
    • Diesel-only experience is welcome!
  • Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs
  • Ability to work comfortably around water
  • Ability to work in tight spaces
  • Ability to work at heights of up to 30 feet
  • Stand, sit, walk, push, pull, climb, crawl, bend, kneel, squat, twist, reach, grasp
