Description
Bring Your Diagnostic Expertise to One of the Boating Capitals of the World
Boater's World Marine Centers is seeking an experienced, diagnostic-focused Senior Outboard Marine Technician to join our growing Service Department in Islamorada, FL.
We are looking for a technician with 3-5+ years of marine dealership experience who can confidently diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, fuel, cooling, steering, rigging, and performance-related concerns on today's leading outboard engines.
This is not an entry-level or basic maintenance position. The ideal candidate is a skilled problem-solver who understands how to trace an issue to its root cause, use manufacturer diagnostic systems effectively, and complete high-quality repairs with minimal supervision.
If you take pride in getting the diagnosis right the first time, enjoy solving challenging technical problems, and want to continue growing your career in the Florida Keys, we would like to hear from you.
What You'll Do
Advanced Diagnostics & Troubleshooting
- Independently diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, fuel, cooling, steering, trim, charging, and performance-related concerns
- Use OEM diagnostic software, scan tools, service manuals, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer troubleshooting procedures
- Interpret fault codes, engine history, live data, compression results, and electrical readings to identify root causes
- Diagnose intermittent concerns and issues that may not be immediately apparent during an initial inspection
- Provide clear repair recommendations, parts needs, and labor requirements based on diagnostic findings
- Perform water testing and sea trials when needed to verify concerns and confirm completed repairs
Outboard Service & Repair
- Service and repair Mercury, Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, and other major outboard brands
- Perform scheduled maintenance, inspections, tune-ups, and preventative service
- Complete minor and major engine repairs according to manufacturer specifications
- Repair fuel, cooling, ignition, charging, steering, and control systems
- Perform quality checks to ensure repairs are completed correctly and minimize comebacks
- Identify additional maintenance or repair needs that improve vessel reliability and customer safety
Rigging, Repowers & Installation
- Perform outboard installations, repowers, rigging, and component replacement
- Install steering systems, controls, batteries, gauges, wiring, and marine accessories
- Complete electrical and mechanical upgrades to manufacturer and dealership standards
- Verify proper engine setup, operating height, control function, steering operation, and overall system performance
- Support accessory and electronics installations when required
Documentation & Repair Order Accuracy
- Document diagnostic procedures, test results, repairs, parts usage, and recommendations accurately in Lightspeed
- Maintain complete repair-order notes that clearly explain the concern, cause, and correction
- Follow dealership and manufacturer procedures for warranty repairs and documentation
- Communicate additional repair needs promptly to the Service Advisor
- Maintain accurate time and labor records for all assigned work
Shop Leadership & Team Support
- Work closely with Service Advisors, Parts personnel, and fellow technicians to maintain efficient workflow
- Provide technical guidance to less experienced technicians when appropriate
- Assist with difficult diagnostic cases and help reinforce quality repair standards
- Support staging, launching, water testing, and preparation of boats for customer delivery
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused work area
- Contribute to a professional, accountable, and team-oriented shop culture
Requirements
 What We're Looking For
- 3-5+ years of professional marine technician experience required
- Strong hands-on diagnostic and troubleshooting experience with outboard engines
- Ability to independently diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues
- Experience servicing and repairing major outboard brands such as Mercury, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Honda
- Strong understanding of 12-volt electrical systems, charging systems, fuel systems, cooling systems, steering, controls, and marine accessories
- Experience using OEM diagnostic software, scan tools, multimeters, compression testers, and manufacturer service information
- Experience performing rigging, repowers, engine installations, and accessory installations
- Ability to perform sea trials and accurately evaluate engine and vessel performance
- Strong repair documentation and communication skills
- Productive, dependable, and capable of managing assigned repairs with minimal supervision
- Valid driver's license required
  Preferred QualificationsÂ
- Current OEM or manufacturer certifications strongly preferred
- Master Technician or advanced manufacturer certification is highly valued
- Multi-brand outboard dealership experience
- MMI graduate or equivalent marine technical education
- Experience mentoring or supporting developing technicians
- Familiarity with Lightspeed or a similar dealership management system
Why Join Boater's World Marine Centers?
- Up to $10,000 in signing bonus and/or relocation assistance for qualified Master Technician candidates
- Work in one of the country's most active and recognizable boating markets
- Consistent, year-round marine service demand
- Opportunity to work on a wide range of outboard brands and technical concerns
- Factory training and opportunities to maintain or expand OEM certifications
- Career growth opportunities throughout Boater's World Marine Centers and the Outdoor Network family
- Supportive leadership team that values diagnostic ability, quality workmanship, productivity, and professional development
- Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance
- 401(k) with company match
- Paid time off and holidays
- Employee discounts
Schedule
- Full-time position
- Monday through Saturday
- Sundays always off
