Job description
Program Manager, Boston University Marine Program (BUMP) Are you passionate about marine science, higher education, and creating exceptional student experiences? Boston University's Marine Program (BUMP) is seeking an organized, collaborative, and proactive Program Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of one of the University's signature experiential learning programs. This role serves as the operational hub of the Marine Program, supporting students, faculty, and academic partners while managing program finances, coordinating courses and field experiences, and helping shape the program's future. The Program Manager works closely with faculty, University departments, and external partners to ensure the successful delivery of academic programs, including the Marine Semester in New England and Belize.
What You'll Do As the Program Manager, you'll play a key role in supporting every aspect of the Marine Program by:
- Managing the program's daily operations, financial administration, budgeting, fiscal reporting, and donor accounts.
- Coordinating Marine Semester courses, including course planning, student applications and registration, travel logistics, field experiences, and partnerships with organizations in New England and Belize.
- Supporting Marine Science students through academic advising, curriculum planning, and the development of advising resources in collaboration with faculty and the CAS Advising Office.
- Planning and coordinating major program events, including orientation, commencement activities, faculty meetings, seminars, and special events. Helping maintain a safe learning environment by coordinating student safety training, monitoring field readiness requirements, and supporting dive and field safety protocols.
- program communications, including website updates, social media, marketing materials, alumni outreach, newsletters, and recruitment activities.
- Maintaining inventories of scientific equipment, instructional materials, field gear, and technology used to support teaching and research.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with academic partners, including the University of Belize, the New England Aquarium, and Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary.
- Supervising a student employee by providing training, assigning work, scheduling hours, and monitoring performance.
Required Skills
What We're Looking For:
- Bachelor's degree required and 3+ years of experience.
- Experience in program administration, higher education, academic operations, project management, or a related field.
- Strong financial management and budgeting skills.
- Excellent organizational and project management abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while working independently and collaboratively.
- Experience coordinating events, travel logistics, or academic programs is highly desirable.
- Comfort working with a variety of technology platforms, websites, databases, and Microsoft Office applications.
- An interest in marine science, environmental education, or experiential learning is a plus.
Why Join BUMP? The Boston University Marine Program offers students unique opportunities to study marine science through hands-on research, field experiences, and partnerships with leading academic and environmental organizations. As Program Manager, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on student success while helping shape innovative educational experiences both on campus and in the field. If you enjoy bringing people together, solving complex logistical challenges, and supporting experiential education, we'd love to hear from you.
