This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, . Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this job is to carry out all facets of technical maintenance and preventative maintenance service related to a vessel, a vessel's engines (both inboard and outboard, gasoline or diesel), heaters, air conditioners, electronic systems, operational systems and trailers needed to keep the NRP fleet and associated equipment operating in a safe and reliable condition with a constant high state of readiness. The NRP's vessel fleet consists of 20 large vessels (25 feet and over) and 144 small vessels (14-25 feet) that are equipped with various different makes/models of engine propulsion systems. In addition, NRP has 133 vessel trailers. This position requires practical, highly specialized, and intuitive knowledge in the operations and maintenance of inboard and outboard fuel injected engines, diesel engines, electronics, hydraulics, boat trailers, plumbing, electrical and air condition systems of this fleet. This position provides vital input on new specifications for the requisition of replacement engines, vessels, machinery, equipment, tools and parts. The position is critical to the operations of the NRP, so the vessel fleet is kept in top working order for all public safety emergencies, citizen reported calls for service, and a variety of state and federally funded regulatory, research and restoration programs within Maryland's portion of the Chesapeake Bay, bay tributaries, lakes and the Atlantic Ocean. NRP Master Marine Mechanics must have highly specialized and extensive training in outboard and marine engines from reputable marine engine manufacturers such as Yamaha, Suzuki, and/or Evinrude BRP. These highly specialized certifications, that take months to years of education to attain and sometimes keep up, are the foundation of the Master Marine Mechanic skills and abilities to keep the NRP's vessel and trailer fleet in pristine working condition.\r\n
POSITION DUTIES
The Department of Natural Resources, Natural Resources Police, Support Services Bureau,\r\nin Stevensville, Maryland is currently accepting applications for a Master Marine Mechanic. This position is\r\nresponsible for organizing, and carrying out all technical maintenance needed to keep the NRP vessel fleet and\r\nassociated equipment, including trailers, operating in a safe and good condition with a high state of readiness.\r\nEmployees in this classification may work shifts, which include weekends and holidays.\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
\r\nEducation: Completion of the eighth grade and successful completion of the Outboard Marine Corporation or equivalent factory sponsored training course on marine engines.\r\n\r\n\r\nExperience: Seven years of experience in the repair of gasoline and diesel engines, five years of which must involve the repair of marine inboard and outboard engines and related maritime systems.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nNotes:\r\n\r\n1. Applicants may substitute a vocational/technical high school education in the curriculum of marine or automotive engine repair for up to two years of the required general experience.\r\n\r\n\r\n2. Applicants may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in engineman classification or engineman specialty codes in the vessel field ofwork on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r\n\r\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
\r\n Marine Mechanic/Technician entry level certification (Suzuki outboard motor platform, and/or Yamaha, and/or Mercury outboard engine platform)\r\n Two (2) years of experience using a computer, and Microsoft Word and, Microsoft Excel.\r\n Two (2) years of experience related to travel lift and forklift operation\r\n Education - graduation from a vocational school related to marine technical services.\r\n Must maintain confidentiality.\r\n \r\n\r\n
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Candidates appointed to positions in this classification\r\nwill be assigned dutieswhich\r\nrequire the operation of a motor vehicle and require the possession of a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the\r\nState of Maryland.\r\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Candidates appointed to positions\r\nin this classification must carry an approved certification\r\nfor outboard engine and generator repair through an outboard engine motor manufacturer.\r\n\r\n\r\nEmployees\r\nwill be required to attend special training courses in marine engine mechanicsand related areas of work in the interest of\r\nacquiring the required skills and keeping abreast\r\nof technological changes.\r\n\r\n
