Marine Conservation Research Assistant Jobs (NOW HIRING)

Job Description:

The Research Assistant will work independently under the mentorship of senior staff to carry out experimental protocols as well as provide technical assistance, including mentorship of undergraduate and graduate researchers to perform experiments according to established and constantly evolving laboratory protocols.

The Research Assistant will be responsible for embryo and larval growth, metamorphosis, and adult animal husbandry of the sea urchin and sea stars used in this lab for gene functional analysis. The Research Assistant will also be responsible for working independently on publication ready research and results using microinjections of DNA-constructs, PCR analysis of the mutated gDNA, gene localization with hybridization and immunofluorescence, with a particular emphasis on cell culture and cell cycle technologies. This position will also work independently on daily lab administrative tasks, including working with vendors and ensuring students and researchers have all the necessary equipment and training available.

This is a fixed term position with a current end date of one year from the date of hire which may be extended based upon available funding.

Job Qualifications:

Education and Experience

• Required: Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, genetics, zoology or related field and 1-2 years of professional research experience including working in a laboratory setting.

• Or, equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Experience in the specific field of echinoderm developmental molecular biology is advantageous.

• Previous experience with animal husbandry for marine organisms, with experience in growing live food for animal cultures is desired.
