Job description

The Marina Dock Attendant provides service to customers at the marina and handles the day-to-day dock store responsibilities. Serves the public with integrity to effectively and efficiently assist customers and represent the Park District in a professional manner.
  • Provide customer service and assistance for dock store purchases, including handling cash, credit and internal account processing.
  • Meet customer needs by selling merchandise. Provide quality customer service and ensure accurate point of sale transactions.
  • Accurately perform store opening and closing procedures.
  • Perform daily removal of seaweed and other debris from the harbor water as needed.
  • Adhere to Cleveland Metroparks Accounting Manual which provides policies and procedures for money/funds handling and deposits.
  • Process Transient Dock requests and check in transient boaters via marina software, ensure proper vessel documentation is on file, help boaters tie up at the docks, assist visitors, etc.
  • Pump out boat holding tanks using the pump-out cart.
  • Pressure wash docks, stock and clean bathrooms, keep office/store tidy, empty trash receptacles, look for maintenance concerns and report them to management
  • Complete sales via POS system
  • Help customers with kayak/peddle boat rentals
    • Help launch/retrieve the kayaks
    • Ensure all waivers are signed
    • Instruct customers how to operate watercraft when necessary
    • Collect rental fee via store POS
    • Ensure PFDs are worn and all safety standards are adhered to
  • Answer the office phone and provide exceptional guest focus
  • Must be able to respond to any emergency situations that may occur in a calm and productive manner. Basic firefighting drills and training sessions will be completed on a regular basis.
  • May require operating the fuel dock when reporting to the East 55th Street Marina location.
  • Other duties as assigned or apparent.

  • High School diploma or GED required, Marina experience preferred
  • Must be age 18 or older
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Boat knowledge (especially proper docking/tie up for power and sailboats) preferred
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, early mornings, and evenings
  • Demonstrated experience with computers and/or point of sale equipment
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public
  • Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely, and persuasively in English using correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings
  • Must be able to swim or be willing to wear a life vest at all times when working on docks and water's edge areas
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others
  • Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative
  • Ability/willingness to lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Excellent work ethic: reliability, responsibility and ability to work independently with little direct supervision
  • Successfully passing a background check is required
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions

Work Schedule: 24 - 40 hours per week; must be available to work weekends, holidays, early mornings and evenings
Work Location: This position may report to North Coast Harbor Marina or East 55th Street Marina depending on operational needs
