Job description

Description
SMART's Planning Department is seeking a student intern to support our micro-transit shuttle program (SMART Connect) as well as other Planning Department projects and programs. This opportunity will provide exposure to both office and field work experiences.
The Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit District (SMART) is a voter-approved passenger rail and bicycle-pedestrian pathway project located in Marin and Sonoma counties. SMART's Planning department is responsible for transportation planning support for the District in addition to coordinating with planners at local jurisdictions and transit agencies. This work includes programs, policies, station area planning, ridership, way-finding and technical studies, in addition to providing support to a wide range of agency projects.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Class specifications are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed by, and minimum requirements required of, employees in the class. Specifications are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. SMART reserves the right to determine and amend job responsibilities.
  • Assist with the SMART Connect micro-transit shuttle program. This includes service planning and scheduling, data analysis, customer service, community outreach, and transit operations.
  • Assist with planning projects, including research and information gathering, data preparation/input and data management.
  • Perform field work in support of micro-transit shuttle program.
  • Assist with Planning Department file and document organization.
  • May support other Agency departments as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements
SMART is seeking a qualified college student or recent graduate to intern for the duration of the new fiscal year ending June 30, 2027. Applicants must be currently enrolled in or have recently completed a degree in Urban Studies, Public Policy, Public Administration, Planning, or a related field.
