What is the difference between Mariculture vs Aquaculture Technician?
| Aspect | Mariculture | Aquaculture Technician |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Often requires degrees in marine biology, aquaculture, or related fields | Typically requires high school diploma or associate degree, with certifications in water quality or safety |
| Work Environment | Operates in coastal, open-sea, or controlled marine farm settings | Works in freshwater or marine farms, hatcheries, or research facilities |
| Industry Usage | Specialized in cultivating marine species like shellfish, seaweed, or finfish in saltwater environments | Involved in maintaining and monitoring aquatic species in aquaculture facilities |
Mariculture focuses on the cultivation of marine organisms in saltwater environments, often requiring advanced marine biology knowledge. Aquaculture Technicians support daily operations in both freshwater and saltwater farms, with a broader scope of species and environments. While both roles are vital to seafood production, mariculture is more specialized in marine settings and species.

- Lead incident investigations, identify root causes, and drive corrective and preventive actions that strengthen organizational learning and reduce risk.
- Maintain accurate safety records and documentation, ensuring compliance with regulatory, legal, and Company document retention requirements.
- Monitor safety performance, analyze trends, and provide actionable recommendations to the CEO and Leadership Team.
- Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement through coaching, communication, and collaboration.
- Perform other duties consistent with the responsibilities of the role in support of the Company's evolving business needs.
What You'll Bring

- 3-5 years of progressive safety experience in a high-risk operating environment.
- Experience supporting field operations rather than solely office environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Preferred experience in offshore aquaculture, commercial diving, maritime operations, offshore energy
Certifications
- Commercial Divers Certification (ADCI, DCBC, IMCA)
- First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor
- Commercial Dive Safety experience
