About This Position:
Are you passionate about heavy equipment, problem-solving, and making an impact across Louisiana? In this role, you'll help support the management of DOTD's statewide fleet of more than 6,000 pieces of equipment valued at approximately $250 million.
Working alongside the Equipment Engineer and Plant Maintenance team, you'll collaborate with Equipment Superintendents across the state to evaluate equipment repairs, replacements, modifications, and specifications. You'll also work with consultants, contractors, vendors, and maintenance personnel to ensure the department has the reliable equipment it needs to keep Louisiana's transportation system moving.

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
NOTE:
Applications will be accepted from persons who possess a current Engineer Intern Certificate in states other than Louisiana. However, the applicant will be required to obtain a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate prior to appointment. The hiring agency will verify that all requirements are met.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
- Assists with development of technical specifications for all equipment to be procured by the DOTD. Consults with other DOTD staff to determine needs and conducts extensive research on available equipment in order to develop technical specifications for bidding. Assists with development of the design and arranging for construction of special equipment that is not available commercially in order to meet diverse needs of the DOTD.
- Assists with coordinating with districts and equipment users to ensure equipment meets DOTD needs. Consults with vendors on equipment design, features, and availability, providing feedback on mechanical, electrical, and structural modifications to better meet DOTD requirements.
- Assists with reviewing vendor submittals, plans, and specifications to ensure compliance with DOTD technical standards and provides award recommendations. Offers guidance to vendors and equipment up-fitters on equipment layout and fabrication, reviews drawings for accuracy and compliance, and participates in meetings to help resolve equipment-related issues.

Career Progression: This position may be filled as a as Engineer Intern 1 up to Engineer 5 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).
Compensation: Below is the starting hourly rate and premium pay amount for each level. (Some positions may qualify for a (SER) Special Entrance Rate.)
- Engineer Intern 1 - has a SER rate of $2,115.20/Biweekly
- Engineer Intern2 -has a SER rate of $2,263.20/Biweekly
- Engineer 3 -has a SER rate of $2,671.20/Biweekly
- Engineer 4 -has a SER rate of $2,952.00/Biweekly
- Engineer 5 -has a SER rate of $3,158.40 /Biweekly
