Job description

Shape complex ideas into precise parts—then lead the cell that makes them real

Start your day by opening Mastercam or Hypermill, loading a customer CAD model, and translating specifications into efficient CNC lathe and mill programs. You’ll select cutting tools, set tool offsets, build clear setup sheets, and fine-tune paths for best yield and cost. On the floor, you’ll guide setups on CNC lathes and mills, troubleshoot programming issues in real time, and verify results with your own calipers, micrometers, and other inspection tools (personal or company-owned). When the job calls for it, you’ll generate purchase requisitions for tooling or BOM items, and coordinate with internal teams to resolve manufacturing challenges.

As the Cell Lead, you’ll manage up to one operator and up to three CNC machines in your cell, prioritizing safety, throughput, and quality. You’ll model a safe, clean, organized workspace aligned with OSHA guidelines, uphold Zero Hour Parts’ quality management system (QMS), and keep promises to customers with on-time delivery of precision-machined components.

What you’ll own
  • Translate customer drawings/specs into CNC lathe/mill programs using Mastercam or Hypermill
  • Create 3D models or 2D drawings as needed from customer inputs
  • Produce setup sheets; choose tooling and define offsets to optimize cycle time, yield, and cost
  • Instruct and support setups on CNC mills and lathes; solve programming and process issues
  • Drive purchasing requisitions for tooling/BOM; collaborate with internal departments to resolve issues
  • Perform in-process checks using calipers and inspection equipment
  • Lead a cell with up to three CNC machines and up to one operator; manage day-to-day priorities
  • Champion a safe, orderly environment and continuous improvement within the QMS
What you bring
  • High school diploma or GED (Associate’s in Engineering Technology or related, technical certifications, or advanced apprenticeship are a plus)
  • 1+ year of programming experience
  • 4+ years of machining experience (or manager-approved equivalent)
  • Mastercam or Hypermill proficiency; strong general computer skills
  • Strong blueprint reading; moderate GD&T required (strong preferred)
  • Hands-on skill with machinist gauges (calipers, micrometers, etc.)
  • Experience across diverse materials: steel, aluminum, stainless, plastic, titanium, copper, ceramic, etc.
  • Prototype CNC machining and setup experience preferred
  • Required: setup/operation of 3-axis mills or 2-axis lathes
  • Preferred: setup/operation of 4- and 5-axis mills; 3-axis lathes and live tooling
  • Leadership aptitude; self-motivated, reliable, adaptable; thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to lift up to 50–75 lbs; able to sit or stand for extended periods; available for overtime as needed
