Job description

Assistant Accountant

Full-Time | Birmingham, AL

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our accounting team. This position will provide day-to-day accounting support while serving as the primary backup to the Accounting & HR Manager. The ideal candidate will have strong Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable experience and be able to contribute immediately with minimal training beyond learning our internal systems.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys a variety of responsibilities and wants to become an integral part of a collaborative, team-oriented manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Process customer invoices and maintain Accounts Receivable records
  • Apply customer payments and reconcile customer accounts
  • Monitor aging reports and assist with collections as needed
  • Match purchase orders to vendor invoices and forward approved invoices through the Accounts Payable workflow
  • Assist with daily cash receipts, deposits, and account reconciliations
  • Enter accounting transactions accurately and maintain organized financial records
  • Support month-end closing activities and other accounting projects
  • Cross-train to provide backup support for the Accounting & HR Manager
  • Serve as backup for payroll processing during absences or peak periods
  • Assist with additional accounting and administrative duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting preferred
  • Minimum of 4-5 years of accounting experience
  • Strong Accounts Receivable experience required
  • Experience matching purchase orders to invoices and processing invoices preferred
  • Payroll experience or the willingness to learn payroll processing as a backup
  • Ability to work independently and become productive quickly with training on company systems
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office and Quickbooks - Required
  • Manufacturing accounting experience is a plus
