Job description

Position Overview

Taurus Industrial Group is seeking an experienced Mechanical / Civil Superintendent to support our Geismar, Louisiana operation. This role will be involved from the front end of an opportunity through final execution. The Superintendent will perform job walks with clients and Taurus' Strategy & Growth team, provide field input to estimates and execution plans, and lead awarded work safely, productively, on schedule, and within budget.

Primary Responsibilities

Job Walks, Preconstruction & Estimating

• Participate in client job walks with Strategy & Growth, Estimating, and Project Management to understand scope, site conditions, access, schedule, constraints, and client expectations.

• Identify labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, temporary facility, access, and constructability requirements.

• Review drawings, specifications, bid documents, and scopes of work; identify gaps, risks, exclusions, clarifications, and potential cost or schedule impacts.

• Help develop manpower plans, crew composition, production assumptions, schedules, equipment needs, and practical execution strategies for estimates.

Project & Field Execution

• Direct daily execution of assigned mechanical and civil work in accordance with scope, drawings, specifications, schedule, budget, quality requirements, and client expectations.

• Develop daily and weekly work plans; communicate production expectations to General Foremen, Foremen, craft personnel, subcontractors, and assigned field staff.

• Ensure crews have the information, materials, tools, equipment, permits, access, and support required to perform efficiently.

• Coordinate work between crafts, subcontractors, client representatives, operations personnel, Project Management, and other Taurus groups.

• Monitor progress against plan, identify field conflicts early, and take corrective action before safety, quality, productivity, cost, or schedule are affected.

Safety, Quality & Field Leadership

• Be directly accountable for safe field execution and ensure company and client safety requirements are followed at all times.

• Ensure permits, JSAs, pre-task plans, toolbox meetings, inspections, hazard controls, and Stop Work Authority expectations are fully implemented.

• Ensure work meets drawings, specifications, procedures, quality requirements, and client standards; correct deficiencies and minimize rework.

• Lead and hold field supervision and craft personnel accountable for performance, attendance, conduct, housekeeping, documentation, and professional client interaction.

Cost, Productivity & Resource Control

• Understand labor budgets, planned hours, production goals, schedules, and cost expectations for assigned work.

• Track labor hours, installed quantities, production, material usage, and equipment utilization against the plan.

• Adjust crews, work methods, supervision, and resources when productivity or cost trends are unfavorable.

• Control unnecessary overtime, idle time, standby time, rework, non-billable labor, material waste, and rental costs.

• Communicate cost, labor, production, schedule, and execution concerns early and recommend solutions.

Client & Business Support

• Represent Taurus professionally during client meetings, job walks, planning discussions, and project execution.

• Support Strategy & Growth by helping evaluate opportunities and converting field knowledge into practical execution plans.

• Identify additional work opportunities at client sites and communicate them through the appropriate Taurus leadership channels.

• Help ensure a clean handoff from opportunity development and estimating into project execution.

Candidate Qualifications

• Strong industrial construction experience with a mechanical and/civil background and demonstrated superintendent-level field leadership.

• Working knowledge of mechanical and civil construction means and methods, sequencing, manpower planning, productivity, equipment, materials, and field coordination.

• Ability to read and understand drawings, specifications, scopes of work, schedules, and client requirements.

• Experience participating in job walks and providing meaningful field input to estimating and project planning.

• Strong understanding of safety leadership, quality, cost control, production tracking, schedule performance, and documentation.

• Strong client-facing communication skills and ability to work effectively with Strategy & Growth, Estimating, Project Management, and Operations.

• Ability and willingness to travel to client sites and active projects throughout the Louisiana region as required.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for more than a traditional field superintendent. The right person can stand in front of a client, understand the work during a job walk, recognize constructability and execution risks, help build a realistic estimate, and then take ownership of safely and profitably executing the project.

RECRUITING EMPHASIS

Prioritize candidates with proven industrial field leadership who are also comfortable with client interaction, job walks, estimating support, and owning projects from preconstruction through completion. The position will be officed from Geismar and will support the growth and execution of Taurus' mechanical and civil work in Louisiana.

Key Performance Expectations

• Safety and field leadership | Productivity and labor cost control | Schedule and quality performance

• Accurate scope and constructability input | Effective estimating support | Clean transition into execution

• Client communication | Early risk escalation | Successful completion of assigned work
