Job description
ZEV Technologies is seeking a Quality Inspector / Metrologist to join our Quality Department. This position plays a critical role in supporting the production of high-precision firearm components and related products manufactured from aluminum, stainless steel, and other advanced materials.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically minded, and takes pride in producing accurate and reliable inspection results. This role offers the opportunity to work with advanced inspection equipment, CMM technology, and an experienced manufacturing team while contributing directly to product quality, process improvement, and customer satisfaction.
We are looking for individuals who enjoy problem-solving, continuous learning, and taking ownership of their work. Successful candidates will be trusted to make sound decisions, communicate effectively across departments, and help maintain the quality standards that our customers have come to expect.
Primary Responsibilities
• Perform incoming, in-process, first article, and final inspections. • Read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, specifications, and quality requirements. • Perform dimensional inspections utilizing precision measurement equipment including CMMs, micrometers, calipers, height gages, optical comparators, bore gages, thread inspection equipment, and other metrology tools. • Develop, modify, and execute CMM inspection programs. • Review and validate measurement methods to ensure inspection results accurately represent part conformity. • Evaluate inspection data and identify trends, process variation, or potential quality concerns.
• Verify dimensional results through alternate measurement methods when necessary. • Investigate discrepancies between CMM results, manual measurements, CAD models, and drawing requirements. • Communicate quality concerns and corrective actions with production personnel, engineering, management, customers, and suppliers as required. • Assist in root cause investigations and corrective action implementation. • Support new product development, first article inspections, and process validation activities. • Document inspection results and maintain accurate quality records in accordance with company procedures. • Maintain calibration records and ensure inspection equipment remains compliant and operational. • Support internal audits, customer audits, and continuous improvement initiatives. • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment. • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
• Strong understanding of prints, TDP and engineering drawings. • Working knowledge of GD&T. • Experience operating and programming CMM equipment. • Proficiency with precision inspection and measurement equipment. • Strong mathematical and analytical skills. • Ability to interpret CAD models and engineering data. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and manufacturing software systems. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. • Ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple projects simultaneously. • Ability to work independently while remaining an effective member of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
• 3+ years of quality inspection experience in a precision manufacturing environment. • Advanced GD&T knowledge and application.
• Experience with CMM Manager, Wenzel, Zeiss, OpenDMIS, PC-DMIS, Calypso, or similar CMM platforms. • Experience utilizing SolidWorks or similar CAD software. • Experience in firearms, aerospace, defense, medical device, or other high-precision manufacturing industries. • Experience performing root cause analysis and corrective action activities. • Understanding of statistical process control (SPC) and process capability analysis. • Experience developing and validating inspection methodologies and CMM programs.
