Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced HVAC Controls System Leader for a contract opportunity in Fargo, ND. This role is ideal for a senior building automation and HVAC controls professional who enjoys leading technical teams, solving complex controls challenges, and supporting high-quality project delivery across commercial construction environments.
The HVAC Controls System Leader will guide a team of Controls Systems Engineers and Controls Systems Designers responsible for hardware engineering, software engineering, systems integration, and network-level commissioning for building automation projects. This position offers the opportunity to serve as a regional technical subject matter expert while partnering with project leaders, installation teams, customers, consulting engineers, and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead, supervise, mentor, and develop Controls Systems Engineers and Controls Systems Designers while managing workload, schedules, priorities, and resource planning.
- Coordinate engineering deliverables for HVAC controls and building automation projects, including hardware engineering, software engineering, systems integration, and network commissioning.
- Provide technical leadership for complex application engineering issues, controller and end-device selection, advanced controls solutions, and project implementation challenges.
- Support project planning through engineering schedule forecasts, cost estimates, pre-bid input, release-to-engineering reviews, and project delivery re-estimates.
- Partner with Project Owners, HVAC Installation Managers, Systems Team Leaders, customers, consulting engineers, and architects to ensure successful project execution.
- Promote engineering quality, regulatory compliance, safety standards, accurate reporting, and continuous improvement across tools, processes, and project delivery methods.
Compensation and Benefits
- Contract/Temporary position.
- Pay rate: $45 to $47 per hour.

Required Qualifications and Skills
- Lead engineering teams responsible for HVAC controls, building automation systems, hardware engineering, software engineering, and network commissioning.
- Manage engineering project timelines, resource allocation, cost estimates, reporting, and delivery expectations.
- Provide advanced application engineering support for complex controls projects and systems integration.
- Collaborate with customers, project stakeholders, field installation teams, and internal engineering resources to drive successful project outcomes.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required.
- Minimum 8 years of application engineering experience required.
- Prior supervisory or management experience leading technical or engineering teams required.
- Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience within the construction industry required.
- Strong knowledge of Building Automation Systems, HVAC controls, application engineering, systems integration, and network-level commissioning.
- Ability to interpret project specifications, support controller and end-device selection, and maintain engineering quality standards.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, engineering cost estimating, project cost management, and delivery re-estimating practices.
- Experience using reporting or project management tools such as EPIC, IIS, Power BI, or related systems.
- Excellent written, verbal, presentation, coaching, and customer relationship management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and technical resources in a fast-paced project environment.
- Strong commitment to safety, compliance, ethical business practices, and continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Engineering.
- Professional Engineer, PE, license or registration.
- Recognized expertise across multiple core engineering disciplines.
- Experience supporting major commercial, data center, pharmaceutical, or other complex building automation projects.
- Advanced knowledge of engineering standards, drawing guidelines, controls design practices, and commissioning processes.
