Role Overview:Looking for a Unity Developer to join a small, fast-moving team building simulation applications. You would own meaningful portions of software development (e.g., from feature work through production deployments) in environments with infrastructure and compliance constraints. This role suits a strong software engineer who is comfortable in new technical territory, moves fast without cutting corners, and has the instincts to make decisions today that don't create problems down the road. Hours per week is currently at 40 but it should be part-time support over time (20 hours per week). 2. Tasks and Duties of the Role: Develop, maintain, and extend Unity applications targeting vehicle simulation contextsIntegrate applications with distributed messaging systems, including DIS (Distributed Interactive Simulation) and ROS2Participate in and maintain CI/CD pipelines, including automated build, test, and deployment workflowsRefactor and improve production codebases, including under deployment pressure and time constraintsContribute to testing strategy and uphold code quality standards appropriate for mission-relevant applicationsIdentify and flag development decisions that could create downstream compliance issues in managed or accreditation-sensitive network environments (e.g., ATO)Collaborate with a small cross-functional team, taking ownership of tasks from scoping through delivery3. Required SkillsProficient Unity development, with shipped or production-deployed applicationsStrong software engineering fundamentals: clean architecture, test discipline, and readable codeHands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and production deployment workflowsDemonstrated experience refactoring existing codebases, including in fast-moving or high-pressure situationsAbility to work effectively in a startup or similarly resource-constrained, ambiguous environmentCommunication skills sufficient to surface technical risks early and collaborate without heavy process4. Preferred SkillsPrior exposure to XR developmentFamiliarity with DIS or ROS2 messaging protocols, or other domain-specific real-time messaging systemsAwareness of network and infrastructure constraints in managed, regulated, or classified environmentsExperience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) or infrastructure-as-code toolingBackground in vehicle simulation, physics-based environments, or defense/research applications5. Minimum years of relevant experience3+ years of professional software development experience2+ years working with Unity in a production context6. Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field — or equivalent demonstrated experience7. Preferred Certifications: Unity Certified Professional: ProgrammerRelevant cloud or DevOps certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP, or equivalent) supporting CI/CD and deployment workCompTIA Security+ or equivalent, for candidates expected to operate in accreditation-sensitive environments $85.00 - $85.00 Hourly
