About the Position:
At Southern Methodist University, the OIT Project Manager will be part of the Project Management Office (PMO) within Office of Information Technology (OIT). Under general direction, the candidate will be responsible for facilitating, coordinating, and supporting multiple OIT projects - from project initiation to completion.
This position will work with cross functional teams across campus to meet business objectives.
Job leveling (IT Project Manager or Senior IT Project Manager) and compensation will be determined based on the selected candidate's experience and qualifications.
Essential Functions:
  • Project Management - Lead and manage all aspects of multiple projects including defining project goals, objectives, scope, schedule estimates, resources and cost. Managing and coaching the project team as needed.
  • Communication - Effectively coordinate and communicate progress communication among project teams, customers, and appropriate level of management.
  • Risk Awareness - Pro-actively identify and analyze project risks, plan and implement risk responses.
  • Relationship Building - Develop strong relationships with all project stakeholders.
  • Other Duties - Business Process Analysis, System Analysis, Team Dynamix administration, and other duties as assigned.
  • Change Management - Help individuals and team resources to navigate organizational changes through all aspects of the project lifecycle.
  • Occasional travel for conferences and training may be required.
Education and Experience:
Associates degree and five years of work experience is required.
OR
A Bachelor's degree and three years of work experience is required.
A degree in Project Management, Computer Science, Information Systems, or Business Administration is preferred.
Experience managing the execution and implementation of software development, infrastructure or other IT related projects with multiple integrations is preferred. Experience in higher education, desired.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Candidate with knowledge and understanding of PMBOK-based principles and practices is preferred. Experience using Visio or other similar applications for mapping business processes is preferred.
Candidate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Project Portfolio Management (PPM) tools such as TeamDynamix is preferred. The ideal candidate should also possess strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Candidate must also demonstrate strong project management and time management skills.
Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification is preferred.
