Janitor/Custodian/Handy Person



DescriptionESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - JANITOR:


Essential duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:


1. Maintain a safe environment at all times for all personnel.

2. Performs safety-related inspections and activities such as removing snow, salting walkways, removing debris from walkways, cleaning up spills, clearing clutter to prevent falls, reporting potential or actual safety hazards promptly, etc.

3. Ensure all chemicals, cleansers, etc. are properly labeled stored, and used according to safety instructions.

4. Follow the instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies. Use as directed.

5. Wear proper Personal Protective Equipment at all times.

6. Vacuum, sweep, and mop floors and stairs. Maintain non-slip floors and stairs.

7. Strip, clean, buff, and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors, vacuum and shampoo carpets as needed.

8. Clean and sanitize bathrooms using established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

9. Clean and sanitize sinks, countertops, microwaves, and refrigerators in break rooms.

10. Clean windowsills and windows. Clean accessible interior and exterior windows.

11. Dust and clean office desks and furniture that are not cluttered.

12. Thoroughly vacuum offices at least weekly.

13. Empty all trash cans and replace liners, and clean receptacles as necessary.

14. Assist with the setup and breakdown of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.

15. Move furniture, equipment, supplies, and tools as needed.

16. Maintain janitor closets, storage, and equipment in a clean, organized, and safe manner.

17. Restock supplies in bathrooms, break rooms, and common areas.

18. Ensure all janitorial equipment and tools are properly maintained, repaired, and serviced as needed.

19. Take training as required in safety, cleaning methods and techniques, new products, First Aid, AED, and CPR as needed.

20. Support and enforce all policies of BGCGCO, OSHA rules, and health and safety regulations and guidelines.

HANDY PERSON DUTIES

1. Perform minor repairs or installations to walls, floors, ceiling, windows, plumbing, electrical and other structural and functional components of the facility.

2. Apply paint or otherwise upgrade and improve the look and function of the facility as needed.

3. General maintenance of grounds including cutting grass, removing debris, improving fencing, gates, access to/from the facility, and removing potential safety risks.

4. Handle recycling materials.

Requirements:REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

1. At least 18 years of age.

2. High school diploma or GED.

3. Ability to perform high school-level arithmetic calculations and reading comprehension.

4. Legally eligible to work in the United States.

5. A valid Indiana driver's license and be able to drive an automobile.

6. Reliable transportation to and from work, to program locations, and for activities such as meetings, classes, and workshops in and out of the area.

7. Pass a criminal records background check and a 10-panel drug screen.

8. Maintain current 1st Aid and CPR certification.

9. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

10. Maintain emotional self-control when under personal stress.

11. Accurately assess situations, solve problems, work effectively under stress, within deadlines, and in emergencies.

12. Understand and carry out instructions and procedures with minimal supervision.

13. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing using correct English.

14. Exhibit excellent relationship-building skills with all levels of employees and management.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. The work requires routine walking, standing, bending, lifting, and carrying items.

2. Ability to adapt to inclement weather conditions and/or situations.

3. Ability to move easily across a variety of indoor and outdoor surfaces;

4. Possess the strength and agility to climb stairs, lift, and carry 25 pounds at least 20 feet.

5. Possess the speech, vision, and hearing functions necessary to respond effectively to emergencies.

6. Capable of performing physically and mentally in a reasonable manner all essential job responsibilities, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
