Job description

Position Overview
International is seeking a Category Manager - Steering to join our Procurement team!
The Category Manager will lead a Category Management Team (CMT) in partnership with R&D, working cross-functionally across International with program management, quality, manufacturing, risk management, finance, and supply chain. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies for Steering commodities, driving cost optimization, managing supplier relationships, and negotiating strategic agreements that support business objectives.
The Category Manager's key responsibilities include leading strategic sourcing initiatives, negotiating supplier contracts, identifying and implementing cost reduction opportunities, and managing supplier performance across cost, quality, delivery, innovation, and risk. This role will collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure sourcing strategies align with product development timelines, technology roadmaps, and long-term business objectives for Steering commodities.
Responsibilities
  • Co-Leading the CMT (Category Management Team) to develop and execute a commodity strategy that best supports and influences the overall Navistar strategy meeting objectives for Major/Minor Programs
  • Manage all commercial aspects with assigned supply base including driving cost savings goals, negotiating, risk management, building positive relationships and resolving open issues with a cross functional team
  • Analyze supplier cost structure and competitive landscape to identify and negotiate savings and mitigate increases
  • Negotiate and execute Long Term Supply Agreements
  • Lead the cross-functional Category Management Team for the commodity
  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies and gain CMT and executive approval where needed
  • Identify and execute cost savings measures with suppliers and Navistar team to achieve annual goals
  • Analyze data to understand the cross functional impact of sourcing decisions or project through developing accurate business cases
  • Constantly Communicate with Supply Chain, Operations, Purchasing, and Engineering customers and escalate issues when needed - know who, when, and how to communicate with all Stakeholders
  • Manage the workload of an assigned sourcing specialist where applicable

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of purchasing/procurement experience
  • At least 1 years of lead experience

OR
  • Master's degree and at least 3 years of purchasing/procurement experience
  • At least 1 years of lead experience

OR
  • At least 8 years of purchasing/procurement experience
  • At least 1 years of lead experience

Additional Requirements
  • Qualified candidates, excluding current employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. We do not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)

  • Strategic mindset with ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop relationships with different functional backgrounds as well as with different business cultures globally
  • Experience with sourcing components, discovering competitive options and leading negotiations
  • Ability to read, understand, and execute commercial agreements and contracts
  • Ability to understand technical concepts
  • Skilled at developing executive level presentations
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Manufacturing background a plus
